Lenovo Leads PC Shipments as Gartner Reports 8.2% Market Growth in Q3 2025

Gartner’s preliminary Q3 2025 estimate put worldwide PC shipments up 8.2% year over year, with Lenovo first. The data do not verify a three-year growth record.

Lenovo ranked first as worldwide PC shipments rose 8.2% year over year in Gartner’s preliminary third-quarter 2025 estimate. The figures show a strong quarter for the market and for Lenovo, but they do not establish that growth was the biggest in three years. They count shipments into sales channels—not confirmed purchases by end users—and the estimate was subject to change.

What Gartner reported for Q3 2025

Gartner estimated 69.914 million PC shipments worldwide in the third quarter of 2025, up 8.2% from a year earlier. Its category covered desktop and laptop PCs running Windows, macOS or Chrome OS. Gartner’s preliminary figures count shipments into channels, so they are not a direct measure of how many computers consumers or businesses bought and put into use. Gartner’s October 16, 2025 release notes that the estimate could change.

Lenovo was the largest vendor in the estimate, with 19.421 million shipments, a 27.8% share and 16.6% year-over-year shipment growth. It also recorded the fastest shipment growth among the quarter’s five largest vendors. All five grew shipments, but that company-level performance is separate from the market’s 8.2% growth rate.

Does this prove the market’s biggest growth in three years?

No. Gartner’s Q3 release reports 8.2% year-over-year growth, but the available figures do not establish that this was the market’s largest increase in three years. That superlative requires a comparable historical series; it should not be inferred from one quarter’s growth rate.

The comparison also needs care because shipments are not end-user demand. Vendors can send PCs into distribution channels before buyers purchase them, and changes in inventories or the timing of purchases can affect reported shipment growth.

Why shipments grew—and why growth varied by region

Gartner identified the Windows 10 end-of-support refresh cycle as a driver of shipment growth in most regions. That is Gartner’s explanation of a market factor, not a separately quantified measure of how many shipments it caused.

Growth was uneven geographically. Gartner estimated North American PC shipments grew just 1.6% year over year in Q3 2025. It said some demand had been brought forward into the first half of the year amid anticipated import tariffs, helping explain the region’s weaker third-quarter rate. Gartner also quoted Research Principal Rishi Padhi: “Consumers continue to exhibit cautious spending behavior — delaying PC purchases and seeking promotional offers.”

How the full-year and 2026 figures change the picture

Gartner’s later estimates put the Q3 increase in a broader context. Its preliminary full-year 2025 estimate was 270.218 million worldwide shipments, up 9.1% year over year. Lenovo shipped an estimated 73.567 million PCs for the year, up 17.6%, with a 27.2% share. These are full-year figures, not a revision of the Q3 rate. Gartner published the full-year estimate on January 20, 2026.

Momentum later became more complicated. Gartner’s preliminary Q1 2026 estimate was 62.8 million shipments, up 4% year over year. Padhi said, “The 4% year-over-year PC shipment growth in the first quarter of 2026 was artificially inflated,” citing inventory builds ahead of expected price increases. Gartner’s April 10, 2026 release therefore cautions against treating that increase as a simple measure of underlying demand.

A separate tracker points to a subsequent contraction: IDC’s Q2 2026 estimate, as reported by 9to5Mac, put worldwide shipments at 68.2 million, down 4.9% year over year. Lenovo remained first with 24.4% share, although its shipments fell 2.1%. Because this figure comes from IDC and the earlier estimates above come from Gartner, the numbers should be compared as separate trackers rather than combined into a single continuous series. 9to5Mac’s July 2026 report attributes the Q2 figures to IDC.

What Lenovo’s lead does—and does not—tell buyers

Shipment leadership indicates scale and channel distribution, not that every Lenovo computer is the best choice for a particular buyer. Gartner’s figures do not compare individual models, reliability, prices or value. Anyone choosing among Lenovo laptops should compare the specific machine’s price, specifications, warranty and suitability for their needs rather than treating market share as a product recommendation.

Lenovo separately said in its FY 2025/26 Q3 results that PC volume outpaced the market for 10 consecutive quarters and reported calendar-year PC share of 24.9%. Those are company-reported claims, measured on Lenovo’s stated basis, and should not be substituted for Gartner’s or IDC’s tracker estimates. Lenovo’s financial results page provides the company’s reporting.
