Leicester are playing in League One, but the available public wage estimates are labeled for a Championship squad and do not align cleanly with the club’s official 2026/27 roster. The club’s published accounts give aggregate staff wages, not individual player salaries. That means a ranked top six would imply more certainty than the evidence supports.
Why a current top-six ranking cannot be verified
Leicester City’s official fixtures page identifies 2026/27 as a League One season (club fixtures and results). The club’s official first-team squad-number announcement, published 14 August 2026, is the appropriate roster reference for that season.
By contrast, SalarySport’s Leicester City 2026 wages page is labeled for the Championship and includes names that do not align cleanly with the club’s later 2026/27 squad announcement. It is a third-party estimate, not an official payroll disclosure or a dependable basis for ranking the current squad.
Leicester City Football Club Limited’s financial statements report £133.212 million in group wages and salaries for the year ended 30 June 2025, compared with £93.451 million for the year ended 30 June 2024. Those totals cover employees, not just first-team players, so they cannot establish any individual player’s pay. See the club’s financial statements.

What the public wage estimates say—and why not to rank them
SalarySport lists the following estimated weekly amounts for Leicester players on its Championship-labeled page. They are reproduced here only to clarify what that source reports; they are not confirmed salaries and do not establish a current 2026/27 top six.
| Player | SalarySport estimated weekly amount | What the figure establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Ricardo Pereira | £73,000 | Third-party estimate on a Championship-labeled page; not a verified current salary |
| Harry Winks | £61,000 | Third-party estimate on a Championship-labeled page; not a verified current salary |
| Jannik Vestergaard | £60,000 | Third-party estimate on a Championship-labeled page; not a verified current salary |
| Boubakary Soumaré | £58,000 | Third-party estimate on a Championship-labeled page; not a verified current salary |
| Hamza Choudhury | £56,000 | Third-party estimate on a Championship-labeled page; not a verified current salary |
| Oliver Skipp | £49,000 | Third-party estimate on a Championship-labeled page; not a verified current salary |
| Patson Daka | £49,000 | Third-party estimate on a Championship-labeled page; not a verified current salary |
Because the source lists two players at £49,000, it does not itself identify a unique sixth place. More importantly, comparing these estimates with 2026/27 performance would mix uncertain pay inputs with a roster and season that the page does not reliably represent. The figures should not be presented as the current squad’s confirmed wage order.

What “value for money” would need to measure
A defensible ranking needs comparable salary and performance data for the same period and competition, limited to players confirmed in the current squad. It should use one consistent pay measure—such as guaranteed base salary rather than a mixture of salary, bonuses, or loan contributions—and explain how performance is judged.
- Availability: minutes available, starts, and appearances can show whether a player was regularly usable, but appearances alone ignore playing time.
- Attacking output: goals and assists may help assess forwards and attacking players, but they do not capture every role or contribution.
- Other positions: defenders and midfielders need role-appropriate measures, such as defensive work or progression, rather than a goals-only test.
- Context: role, age, and availability affect how output should be interpreted. Cost per appearance or cost per goal alone can mislead, especially across positions and minutes played.
Without verified, comparable salaries and performance inputs, assigning places would create a ranking rather than measure one.

Why Jamie Vardy is not a current 2026/27 candidate
Leicester announced on 24 April 2025 that Jamie Vardy would leave at the end of 2024/25 (club announcement). The Premier League’s Leicester City page displays his historic Premier League totals of 145 goals and 342 appearances. Those records describe past performance, not his place in Leicester’s 2026/27 squad or value for money in the current season.
