Did Lane Kiffin sign with LSU?
Yes. LSU announced Kiffin’s appointment on November 30, 2025, and its official staff page lists him as the 2026 head football coach. LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry said in the hiring announcement, “We are thrilled to welcome Coach Kiffin as the next head coach of the LSU Football program.” LSU’s announcement is the primary source for the appointment date and statement.
What does the LSU term sheet say about compensation?
The Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors term sheet sets the contract period from November 30, 2025, through December 3, 2032, and lists annualized compensation of $13 million. That annualized figure is broken into two components:
- Base salary: $400,000
- Supplemental compensation: $12.6 million
These are the figures and dates in the 2025 LSU Board of Supervisors term sheet. Annualized compensation is not the same thing as a reported total contract value: it describes compensation on an annual basis, while the total covers the agreement’s full term.

Why are reports calling it a $91 million contract?
The Washington Post later described the signed agreement as seven years and $91 million. That is the clearest reported final-total figure in the available sources, while LSU’s term sheet supplies the annualized components and term dates. The two figures address different aspects of the deal, rather than contradicting each other. The Washington Post’s report gives the reported total.
How did the $90 million and $98 million figures fit in?
The $90 million figure belongs to the earlier negotiation-stage framing. CBS Sports reported a seven-year proposal that could reach as much as $98 million. That was a reported proposal, not the final agreement amount; it should not be added to or substituted for the later $91 million report. CBS Sports’ report covers the proposal context.

What the public figures do not establish
The cited term sheet and reporting do not provide a complete accounting of every possible bonus, benefit, buyout, or later contract amendment. Those details should not be inferred from the annualized compensation or the reported $91 million total.
