1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLand F/X can be a strong investment for landscape architecture firms that regularly need planting, irrigation, and detail-management tools in a CAD workflow. It is less attractive for occasional users, Mac-only users, firms dependent on third-party AutoCAD add-ons, or anyone expecting a standalone design application.
The financial question is not simply whether Planting F/X costs $695 per year. A new user may also need F/X CAD, bringing the annual cost to $1,470 for Planting F/X plus F/X CAD, or $1,770 for Irrigation F/X plus F/X CAD. Subscription renewal also affects support, updates, cloud content, and access to Cloud Data project information.
What Land F/X includes
Land F/X is a set of specialized tools rather than one standalone CAD program. Its main products are:
- Planting F/X: planting plans, plant databases, smart plant objects, labels, schedules, site and hardscape tools, and planting error checks.
- Irrigation F/X: irrigation equipment, circuiting, pipe sizing, pressure and flow calculations, schedules, and critical analysis. It also includes Planting F/X and Detail F/X tools.
- Detail F/X: detail creation, editing, organization, callouts, and detail-library management.
- F/X CAD: Land F/X’s Windows-based Autodesk OEM CAD platform, which requires a supported Land F/X plugin license.
Planting F/X also includes plugins for Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp workflows. Those plugins require Cloud Data; Local Data installations do not support them. Land F/X is not standalone CAD unless paired with F/X CAD.

Land F/X pricing
These annual subscription prices took effect January 1, 2026, according to Land F/X’s pricing announcement:
| Product | Annual price | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Planting F/X | $695 | Planting plans and documentation |
| Irrigation F/X | $995 | Irrigation design and calculations |
| Detail F/X | $295 | CAD detail libraries and callouts |
| F/X CAD | $775 | CAD engine for Land F/X users |
There are no monthly subscriptions. Listed prices are before applicable taxes.
| Bundle | Annual price |
|---|---|
| Planting F/X + F/X CAD | $1,470 |
| Irrigation F/X + F/X CAD | $1,770 |
If your firm already owns a supported full version of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Map 3D, you may only need the relevant Land F/X plugin. If you do not have compatible CAD software, the plugin price is not your complete cost. Land F/X’s current system data lists supported CAD versions from 2022 through 2027.
Watch for outdated pricing
Some older Land F/X pages and reviews still show Planting F/X at $575 per year or Detail F/X at $175 per year. Those figures no longer reflect current prices. Budget using $695 for Planting F/X and $295 for Detail F/X; the current Irrigation F/X price is $995.
What you are paying for
The subscription covers more than feature updates. It includes technical support, training resources, weekly updates, reinstallation capability, and access to new cloud content. Land F/X describes its support and training on its support page. For a professional firm, those services may offset some internal troubleshooting and training costs.
If a subscription expires, users lose access to current updates, support, training resources, reinstallation, and new cloud content. A Cloud Data installation stops functioning for access to Cloud Data projects and Preference Sets until it is moved to Local Data. Existing data can generally still be used after conversion, but content that was not already downloaded or placed may no longer be available. Firms that do not plan to renew should arrange the conversion before or during expiration; see Land F/X’s expiration guidance.
Pros of Land F/X
1. Smart planting data can reduce repetitive work
Planting F/X objects are tied to project data rather than being ordinary, disconnected CAD graphics. That connection supports automatic quantities, plant schedules, labels, consistent plant information, and error checking.
Land F/X’s FAQ reports a database of more than 54,000 trees, shrubs, and groundcovers. Users can also add their own plants, symbols, and hatches. For a firm producing planting documents regularly, this can reduce the work of maintaining schedules manually.
To add a plant:
- Open F/X Planting ribbon → Plant Manager, or run the command ProjectPlants.
- Choose Trees, Shrubs, Shrub Areas, or Ground Covers.
- Click New.
- Search the Add Plants dialog by name, genus, species, variety, color, or other available filters.
- Add the plant to the project before placing it in the drawing.
To edit a placed plant, use F/X Planting ribbon → Edit Plant or run FX_PlantInfo. For shrub areas, select the hatch rather than the boundary polyline.

2. Irrigation F/X provides calculations, not just drafting symbols
Irrigation F/X includes manufacturer-based equipment data, equipment placement, circuiting, lateral and mainline layout, pipe sizing, pressure and flow calculations, schedules, critical analysis, and sprinkler coverage testing. Land F/X’s product information describes Imperial and metric data from more than 30 manufacturers.
The Irrigation Manager is available through F/X Irrigation ribbon → Irrigation or the command ProjectIrrigation. It organizes heads, valves, auxiliary equipment, and drip components, along with source and pipe data.
Useful commands include:
| Task | Command |
|---|---|
| Irrigation schedule | IrrigSchedule |
| Valve schedule | ValveSchedule |
| Watering schedule | WateringSchedule |
| Runtime schedule | RuntimeSchedule |
| Critical analysis | FX_CriticalAnalysis |
| Mainline profile | FX_MainlineProfile |
The current Irrigation Schedule dialog uses a single Table destination option and includes Include Xrefs and Entire Palette options. Older tutorials may show a different interface.

3. Detail F/X can pay off for offices with large detail libraries
Detail F/X is most financially compelling when a firm repeatedly uses standard construction details. It provides tools to create, edit, save, organize, and call out details. Centralizing those details can reduce repeated drafting and make office standards easier to maintain.
4. Cloud Data simplifies multi-user access
Cloud Data hosts Land F/X projects, Preference Sets, plant data, equipment data, and related database content online. It is the recommended option for most offices because it avoids much of the database-server administration associated with a multi-user local setup. It also supports CAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Rhino workflows.
Cloud Data does not store DWG files or automatically synchronize them. The local or shared LandFX folder still holds auxiliary items such as blocks, hatches, details, and fonts, and a reliable Internet connection is required.
Land F/X deprecated new multi-user Local Data installations using MySQL in May 2026. Existing installations continue to work temporarily, but Land F/X no longer provides installers for new MySQL installations or server migrations and says support will eventually end. SQLite remains available for single-user Local Data installations. New offices planning shared deployment should treat Cloud Data as the supported route.
5. Support and training are included
Phone and email support, videos, PDF guides, webinars, and weekly updates are included with the subscription. That is useful for a specialized application with a meaningful setup and learning curve. Reviews commonly praise the plant library, automated schedules, customization, irrigation tools, and support.
Cons of Land F/X
1. The real cost can be higher than the headline price
Land F/X depends on full CAD software. It does not work with AutoCAD LT, AutoCAD for Mac, or AutoCAD 360.
Rank #3
Firms without compatible AutoCAD software generally need F/X CAD. That makes the annual cost $1,470 for Planting F/X or $1,770 for Irrigation F/X. Multiple seats can turn a seemingly modest software purchase into a significant recurring operating expense.
2. F/X CAD has important restrictions
F/X CAD is designed for Land F/X work, but it is not a universal AutoCAD replacement. It cannot use third-party plugins, ARX applications, ActiveX or vlax, AutoLISP dialog boxes, or AutoCAD vertical toolsets such as Raster Design, Architectural, or Map 3D. It also lacks AutoCAD rendering, lighting, and 3D commands, Autodesk Traces and Markups, and cloud-only features requiring Forma Data Management. Basic AutoLISP scripts may run, but not the full range of LISP functionality supported by standard AutoCAD.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →F/X CAD also cannot be installed alongside the same-year AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or another AutoCAD vertical product. For example, F/X CAD 2027 cannot share a computer with AutoCAD 2027 or Civil 3D 2027. F/X CAD requires a supported Land F/X license.
F/X CAD 2027 activation takes place during installation when the user enters a custom Serial Number and Product Key. Land F/X says Autodesk may take up to 48 hours to provide those credentials after purchase, though delivery is often faster. Confirm the workflow and timing before scheduling a deployment.
3. Mac users face a workaround, not native support
Land F/X is Windows software. Mac users must run Windows through virtualization such as Parallels. Apple silicon Macs can introduce additional issues because the application is not designed as a native Mac program. This may add virtualization, Windows, support, and troubleshooting costs to the software budget.
4. Cloud Data does not store or synchronize DWG files
Cloud Data stores Land F/X project and preference information, but it does not store the firm’s DWG files or automatically synchronize them. Your office still needs a dependable system for DWGs, Xrefs, permissions, auxiliary files, and backups. The local or shared LandFX folder continues to hold items such as blocks, hatches, details, and fonts.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Local Data stores project and Preference Set data on a workstation or office server. Users or IT staff must handle backups, server maintenance, and migrations. Local Data still needs some Internet access for downloads and updates, and remote or offline work requires careful handling of project data and auxiliary files.
5. Setup is not plug-and-play
A new office may need to configure CAD versions, Land F/X Workstation, support IDs, cloud licensing, the shared LandFX folder, project templates, Preference Sets, office standards, plant and detail libraries, and backup procedures.
Reviews describe initial implementation as effort-intensive, and occasional users may find the number of tools overwhelming. Budget setup time, training, and standards development rather than treating the subscription as the only cost.
6. Data and project discipline matter
Land F/X’s smart-object system creates useful automation, but it also creates failure modes when projects are managed incorrectly. Common messages include “Not all plants in the drawing match the project data” and “Error adding extended data to entity.”
Recommended Free Tools
These can occur when a DWG is opened with the wrong project, when objects are copied between projects, when one project is reused for several designs, or when an Xref contains plants missing from the current project. The result may be missing schedule items or incorrect quantities. Land F/X recommends a separate project for each design. For repeat work, convert a completed project into a template instead of reusing the same project database.
Common troubleshooting costs and failure points
Missing menus or ribbons
After an installation, CAD update, profile change, or menu customization, Land F/X tools may disappear. The documented repair sequence is:
- Run the CAD command MENULOAD.
- Reload the AutoCAD menus if necessary and load the Land F/X menus.
- Run RIBBON.
- If pull-down menus remain missing, run MENUBAR and enter 1.
Do not uninstall Land F/X first; that can create further configuration problems. Land F/X’s current ribbon version is 2026–05. Security software may block the ribbon DLL even when it allows the smaller update file, so checking the version from the Help flyout can be worthwhile.
Cloud and Local Data configuration conflicts
Do not mix Cloud Data and Local Data configurations within the same office or point a Local Data workstation at a shared Cloud Data LandFX folder. A typical error is “Error connecting to Land F/X database: Access denied for user ‘ODBC’@… (using password: NO).” Run ENTERPRISE to inspect the installation configuration and check the Use cloud data setting.
Component registration errors
“Too many arguments” or “too few arguments” when adding plants, notes, or irrigation components can be caused by a defective or improperly registered AntView.ocx. Land F/X documents this repair sequence: open an administrator Command Prompt, navigate to the AntView Win64 folder under the Autodesk ApplicationPlugins landfx.bundle installation, then run regsvr32 -i AntView.ocx.
Drawing corruption
The Nuke tool can clean a corrupt drawing, but it deletes Layout tabs. If those tabs matter, use the manual cleanup process instead. If Nuke creates a QUARANTINE drawing that will not open, run Recover.
Land F/X documents a maximum of 1,800 individual trees or shrubs for one Group Label operation. Large projects may need to be organized accordingly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should buy Land F/X?
Land F/X is easiest to justify when:
- Planting or irrigation documentation is a regular part of the firm’s paid work.
- Automatic schedules, quantities, and error checking will replace significant manual drafting.
- The firm already owns supported Windows CAD software or is comfortable paying for F/X CAD.
- Several users need shared project data and the office can maintain reliable DWG storage and backups.
- The firm has enough recurring work to amortize setup and training time.
It is a weaker fit when you only produce occasional planting plans, depend on Civil 3D objects or third-party plugins, require native Mac software, work entirely offline, or want a one-time purchase. Test every essential plugin, LISP routine, and vertical toolset before replacing AutoCAD with F/X CAD.

How to evaluate the financial return
Compare the annual subscription and setup cost with the labor it can remove. A Planting F/X user paying $695 per year needs to save about $58 per month to cover the subscription before taxes. A Planting F/X plus F/X CAD user paying $1,470 per year needs to save about $123 per month. These break-even examples use the annual prices above; they do not include setup, training, taxes, or other software costs.
Include less visible costs:
- CAD licensing if you do not already have a supported product.
- Windows or virtualization costs for Mac users.
- Initial setup, office standards, migration, and training.
- Backup and DWG-management costs, because Cloud Data does not manage DWG files.
- Potential downtime from Internet, licensing, configuration, or compatibility problems.
- Renewal planning so Cloud Data projects and Preference Sets remain accessible.
Before purchasing, test a representative project, generate a schedule, open an Xref, run your essential LISP routines, and confirm that every third-party plugin works with either standard AutoCAD or F/X CAD.
FAQ

Recommended Free Tools
Is Land F/X worth the cost?
It can be worthwhile for firms that regularly produce planting or irrigation documents and benefit from automated schedules, quantities, and error checking. It is harder to justify for occasional users or firms that need unsupported AutoCAD plugins and toolsets.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Land F/X is a specialized productivity subscription, not inexpensive general-purpose CAD. Planting F/X at $695 per year can provide value when smart planting data, schedules, and error checking replace recurring manual work. Irrigation F/X at $995 per year is more compelling for firms that need hydraulic calculations and irrigation documentation. Detail F/X at $295 per year makes the most sense for offices with a substantial standard-detail library.
The biggest budget mistake is ignoring platform costs. Users without compatible CAD may need to spend $1,470 or $1,770 annually for a plugin and F/X CAD bundle. Before committing, verify F/X CAD compatibility with your plugins and LISP routines, budget setup and training, establish DWG backups, and plan for Cloud Data access if you stop renewing.
