Contemporary coverage rounded that figure to $400 million. The fund was set up to invest in Europe and the United States, primarily at the early stage, with growth-stage investments also planned.
How large was Lakestar II?
Monument Group, Lakestar’s placement agent, announced on 24 August 2015 that Lakestar II had closed at €350 million ($398 million). VentureBeat used the rounded figure of $400 million in its headline. The euro amount and the announcement’s dollar equivalent are the precise reported close; $400 million is a convenient rounded description, not a separate fund size. Monument Group’s announcement and VentureBeat’s same-day report both date to 2015.
Where and how did the fund plan to invest?
Geography
The announced remit covered Europe and the United States. VentureBeat described Lakestar’s aim as strengthening connections between complementary portfolio companies on both sides of the Atlantic; that is a reported strategic aim, not a guarantee of investment in any particular company or country.
Investment stage
The fund could invest across stages, with an emphasis on early-stage companies and additional growth-stage investments. “All stages” therefore describes the breadth of its mandate, while early stage was the stated priority.

Sector scope
Lakestar described a broad sector remit rather than concentrating on one segment of digital industries. The announcement does not supply a narrower sector list or a specific allocation by industry.
What did Lakestar say about demand and fund size?
Lakestar Founder and Chairman Klaus Hommels said the fund was significantly oversubscribed and explained that €350 million was the right size to give portfolio companies personal attention and support from the firm’s partners. This is Lakestar’s account of investor demand and its sizing rationale. The announcement does not name all limited partners or state their individual commitments, so oversubscription should not be read as evidence of who invested or how much any investor contributed. Monument Group reproduced Hommels’s statement on 24 August 2015.

How does Lakestar II fit the firm’s history?
VentureBeat reported that Lakestar’s preceding fund, launched in 2013, was €135 million ($154 million). That is useful background to the 2015 announcement, but it does not establish investment performance or returns for either fund.
Lakestar’s current funds page describes the firm as investing from early venture through growth and says it has invested since 2012. That current description provides context for the firm’s broad stage range; it does not make Lakestar II a recent launch. The €350 million close and the fund terms above refer specifically to the 2015 announcement.
