Kristin Peck says two motivations shape her leadership at Zoetis: a lifelong connection to animals and a belief that businesses can create jobs and opportunity. In a 2020 interview with Successful Farming, she traced the first to her childhood and the second to a semester teaching in Ecuador. Zoetis announced her appointment as CEO effective January 1, 2020; its executive biography and 2025 annual filing identify her as CEO.
How animals shaped Peck’s path to Zoetis
Peck grew up around dogs, cats, horses, and birds. Her mother raised Morgan horses, and her father helped produce rodeos. She has said her first high-school job was at a company that later became part of Zoetis’s legacy in animal health. In her account, the connection to animals began well before she became an executive.
Peck’s career then brought her into leadership roles spanning U.S. operations, business development, strategy, manufacturing and supply, poultry, diagnostics, product marketing, and market research. Before Zoetis, she held roles at Pfizer, including executive vice president for worldwide business development and innovation. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Georgetown University and an MBA at Columbia Business School. Zoetis announced in October 2019 that she would succeed Juan Ramón Alaix as CEO on January 1, 2020. The company’s executive biography and its 2025 Form 10-K identify her as CEO.
Why creating jobs became a personal priority
While studying history and Spanish at Georgetown, Peck spent a semester teaching Spanish to Indigenous children in Ecuador. She says the experience made her question what education could accomplish if children’s families lacked jobs and economic opportunity. As she put it in the Successful Farming profile published August 14, 2020, “That drove me to pursue business as a way of creating jobs and opportunities for people.”

This is Peck’s account of what influenced her career choice, not a claim that business alone resolves poverty. It helps explain why she describes job creation as part of her sense of purpose alongside animal health.
How animal health connects pets, farms, and food
Peck has described Zoetis’s purpose as serving both companion animals and livestock. In her framing, healthy animals matter to pet care and to a safe food supply. She told Successful Farming, “The most rewarding part of my job is knowing that our business purpose is also a social purpose,” and said the company was proud to contribute to the role healthy animals play in a safe, sustainable food supply.

- The products and techniques are natural and complementary to veterinary medicine
- Zoetis - Resorb Packet - 72/pail
- Manufactured in United states
The interview presents animal health as a combination of prevention and treatment, supported by veterinary access and tools that help identify or manage health needs. Peck named diagnostics, vaccines, treatments, genetics, and wearable sensors among the approaches relevant to livestock. These are themes in her description of the work, not an independent evaluation of particular products or technologies.
What Peck says about livestock productivity and sustainability
Peck’s account links animal health with efforts to produce food while using resources more efficiently. She pointed to genetics, data, technology, and innovation as ways livestock production could improve, while also mentioning animal welfare, veterinary care, and responsible antibiotic use as relevant concerns. Her view was that productivity and sustainability are connected to the health of animals and the ability to prevent and respond to disease.

- Prescription topical antibiotic ointment for treating eye infections including conjunctivitis, inflamed cornea, corneal ulcer, and inflammation of the eyelids in dogs, cats, cattle, horses, and sheep. It’s also used to treat eye infections due to secondary bacterial complications of distemper in dogs and bacterial inflammatory conditions which may occur secondary to other infectious diseases.
- Targets the most common bacteria responsible for eye infections. A study showed after applying to the eye, Terramycin concentration in tears were higher than those needed to kill bacteria for up to 12 hours.¹
- Terramycin possesses potent antimicrobial activity and is one of the most versatile of the broad-spectrum antibiotics.
- Typically administered topically 2-4 times a day. Follow your veterinarian’s directions as prescribed.
- Comes in a tube for easy application to the eye.
The 2020 profile cited two historical figures to illustrate changes in production: it reported that the U.S. cattle population had fallen from 140 million in the 1970s to 90 million at the time of publication, while meeting beef demand; it also reported a 50% reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions associated with producing a glass of milk between 1964 and 2014. The profile excerpt does not identify the original datasets or study behind either figure. They should therefore be read as figures reported by Successful Farming in 2020, not as current measurements or independently verified estimates.
The profile also described Zoetis’s African Livestock Productivity and Health Advancement initiative as an example of work involving veterinary-medicine access, diagnostic networks, and farmer training in sub-Saharan Africa. That description reflects the 2020 article; it does not establish the initiative’s present status or current outcomes.

Why the motivations matter to her leadership
Peck’s story joins a personal affection for animals with a business rationale: animal-health services can support pets, livestock, farmers, and the food supply, while the company itself can create employment and opportunity. Her perspective is that these aims reinforce one another. It remains her leadership philosophy rather than proof that every technology or productivity gain automatically improves animal welfare or environmental outcomes.
