Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle opened at No. 1 in North America with an estimated $70 million weekend in September 2025. The Associated Press, citing Comscore, reported a $132.1 million worldwide opening across North America and 49 international markets. Those are opening-weekend figures, not the film’s final box-office totals.
What records did Infinity Castle set?
At the time of its September 2025 debut, the film had the biggest domestic opening ever reported for an anime film. Its estimated $70 million North American weekend surpassed the $31 million opening for Pokémon: The First Movie in 1999, according to the Associated Press’ report citing Comscore. AP also described the $132.1 million worldwide opening as the biggest anime opening of all time at that point.
The two figures measure different territories, not competing estimates: $70 million covers North America, while $132.1 million covers North America plus 49 international markets. Both are opening-weekend amounts. The domestic figure was an estimate in AP’s September 2025 report, not a final gross. AP’s box-office report
How much had the film made later?
A September 23, 2025 Crunchyroll report cited Sony Pictures Entertainment figures of ¥34.01 billion in Japan and $269 million across Crunchyroll and Sony markets. These were cumulative milestones reported on that date—not final lifetime totals—and should not be substituted for the opening-weekend figures. Crunchyroll’s September 23, 2025 update

- Tanjiro Kamado, joined with Inosuke Hashibira, a boy raised by boars who wears a boar's head, and Zenitsu Agatsuma, a scared boy who reveals his true power when he sleeps, board the Infinity Train on a new mission with the Fire Pillar, Kyojuro Rengoku, to defeat a demon who has been tormenting the people and killing the demon slayers who oppose it!
A definitive final worldwide gross as of October 8, 2026 is not established by these reported figures. An opening record describes performance during a particular release period and category; it does not, by itself, establish the film’s current lifetime-gross ranking.
Why was the debut notable?
The opening put a Japanese anime film at No. 1 in North America and above the prior domestic anime-film opening record cited by AP. Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told AP, “This performance by this particular film shows the unpredictability of the box office.” The achievement is specifically an anime-opening comparison; it is not a claim that the film set the biggest opening among all movies.
