In October 2024, MobileSyrup reported that some Koodo customers who received price-increase notices were told they could not change plans until the increase took effect. That was a report about messages received by some customers—not evidence of a restriction affecting every Koodo customer or a current company-wide policy. Koodo’s current help pages say customers can review available plans in Self Serve, while the CRTC’s later rules prohibit certain plan-modification fees but do not guarantee access to a particular plan or freeze a monthly price.
What happened in October 2024?
MobileSyrup reported on October 4, 2024, that some customers receiving Koodo rate-increase messages said they could not change plans until after the increase took effect. The report’s accessible search-result extract supports that summary, but the article page was unavailable when checked. It does not establish how many customers were affected, the amount of any increase, or whether the messages applied to all accounts. MobileSyrup’s October 4, 2024 report
So, if you are asking, “Can Koodo raise my plan price and stop me from changing plans?”, the answer depends on the notice and options presented to your account. The 2024 report describes what some customers said their messages told them; it should not be treated as a description of Koodo’s current policy.
What does Koodo say customers can do now?
Koodo’s current price-increase help page says it provides at least 30 days’ notice through a message on the customer’s bill and in Self Serve. It says affected customers can explore available plans and make changes in Self Serve. These are Koodo’s published instructions, not proof that a particular plan will appear or be available to every account. Koodo: Price increase

Check availability and eligibility
Koodo says some promotional plans have eligibility criteria. A plan you have seen advertised or that another customer can select may not be an option for your account. Check the plan details and eligibility shown in Self Serve before relying on it as an alternative.
Check what happens to add-ons
Koodo warns that existing data add-ons may fall off when you change plans. Before confirming a switch, compare the full monthly cost and included data, calling features, and other services against what you have now. Also consider whether the new plan meets your needs where you use your phone; the cited sources do not provide current carrier price or coverage comparisons. Koodo: Changing your plan

What the CRTC’s 2026 fee rules change—and what they do not
On March 12, 2026, the CRTC issued Telecom Regulatory Policy 2026-43, with protections taking effect June 12, 2026. The policy prohibits covered providers from charging activation or modification fees for activating a new retail telecom plan or modifying an existing one. It allows exceptions for reasonable fees related to physical installation and for additional products or services the customer explicitly chose. CRTC Telecom Regulatory Policy 2026-43
The scope matters: the policy applies to individual and small-business mobile wireless customers of providers subject to the Wireless Code, and to individual customers of covered home internet providers. Its fee protections address charges for plan activation or modification. They do not require a provider to offer a particular plan, make every advertised plan available to every customer, or preserve a month-to-month price.

Keep the separate August 2026 CRTC proceeding in context
On August 14, 2026, the CRTC issued procedural determinations in a separate show-cause proceeding naming Bell, Rogers, and TELUS over specified device and SIM fees. The proceeding asks those providers to respond on compliance; the Commission said it would make determinations after considering the evidence. It is not a final finding of a violation and is not a finding about Koodo’s 2024 messages. CRTC procedural determinations, August 14, 2026

How to assess a price-increase notice
- Read the notice in full. Check the stated effective date and the amount or details of the change. Koodo says price-increase notices appear on the bill and in Self Serve.
- Review plan options in your account. Compare the actual plans shown in Self Serve, including eligibility terms, rather than assuming another customer’s or an advertised offer is available to you.
- Compare the total value. Consider the monthly price after discounts, data and calling features, and whether a plan change would remove existing add-ons.
- Save the relevant details. Keep the notice and the plan terms visible when you make your decision, so you can refer to what was communicated and what you selected.
