The complaint says Burrowes once held a 25% interest and was entitled to 15% of annual earnings; those figures and the alleged events are claims by the plaintiff, not court-established facts.
Why is Kirk Burrowes suing Janice Combs?
Burrowes’s complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, names Janice Smalls—also known as Janice Combs—among the defendants, along with Sean Combs and others. It alleges that the defendants helped take Burrowes’s ownership interest in Bad Boy Entertainment Holdings and denied him compensation. The allegations appear in the complaint filed February 26, 2025; they have not been established as findings in the sources available.
What does Burrowes allege about his Bad Boy stake?
Burrowes alleges that he held a 25% ownership interest in Bad Boy Entertainment Holdings and was entitled to 15% of its annual earnings. He says he lost the stake after a May 1996 incident in which Sean Combs allegedly presented him with a contract while holding a baseball bat, leaving him to sign under duress. These descriptions and financial terms are allegations in the complaint, not independently verified findings.
The complaint further alleges that Smalls concealed her role in the events and later failed to honor an agreement related to a documentary about Bad Boy’s history. The filing is the source for Burrowes’s account; it does not, by itself, establish that the alleged conduct occurred.

What is Burrowes asking the court to do?
The complaint requests several forms of relief. They are demands made by Burrowes, not remedies the court is known to have granted:
- Restore his alleged ownership interest in Bad Boy Entertainment Holdings.
- Compensate him in connection with the alleged share of earnings.
- Order an independent financial audit.
- Issue injunctive relief.
What is the status of the lawsuit?
The available sources do not verify the current status or outcome of the specific action naming Janice Smalls. A separate federal docket, Burrowes v. Combs, case 1:2025cv07795, identifies Sean Combs as a defendant and records removal of a state action to federal court in September 2025. That is a different case and does not establish a response, ruling, or other procedural development in the complaint against Smalls.
