Beyond Fried Chicken was a plant-based menu item developed by Beyond Meat for KFC. It was not conventional chicken, but the plant-based ingredients did not mean it was prepared separately from meat-based food.
When did KFC launch it nationwide?
KFC announced the US nationwide launch on January 5, 2022, with sales beginning January 10. The offer was for a limited time and while supplies lasted. It followed earlier tests: an initial Atlanta test in August 2019, then an expanded test in select restaurants around Charlotte and Nashville in January 2020.
Was KFC Beyond Fried Chicken vegan?
No. KFC said the item was not prepared in a vegan or vegetarian manner. Beyond Meat specified that KFC employees used the same cooking tools and ovens as for meat-based chicken. Anyone avoiding animal products or cross-contact should not assume the item met their needs.

What did the 2022 offer include, and what did it cost?
KFC listed six- and 12-piece orders, plus a combo with Secret Recipe Fries and a medium drink. The release gave a starting price of $6.99 before tax, with prices varying by location. That was the announced starting price for the 2022 launch, not a current or uniform national price.
Can you still get it at KFC?
The 2022 announcement cannot confirm present-day availability at any location. Because KFC described the launch as limited-time and while supplies lasted, check with a local KFC for its current menu rather than relying on that old nationwide announcement.
