The latest located published estimate puts Karan Johar’s wealth at ₹1,880 crore. Mint reported on 2 October 2025 that the figure came from the Hurun India Rich List 2025. It is a third-party list estimate—not an audited personal net worth or a figure Johar has publicly disclosed. Mint
How reliable is the ₹1,880 crore figure?
It is best understood as an estimate attributed to Hurun, as reported by Mint, rather than a verified accounting of Johar’s finances. The reviewed reporting does not provide a personal balance sheet or a calculation method for his individual figure. It also does not establish his verified assets, liabilities, annual income, or how Hurun treated particular holdings.
That means the figure is useful as a date-stamped published estimate, but it should not be presented as cash on hand, an audited total, or a confirmed disclosure from Johar. The sources reviewed do not establish a comparable, methodologically disclosed personal estimate, so there is no sound basis here for averaging estimates or giving a range.
What the Dharma Productions deal tells us—and what it doesn’t
Forbes reported on 21 October 2024 that Serene Productions agreed to invest ₹10 billion (₹1,000 crore) for a 50% stake in Dharma Productions. The terms implied a company valuation of ₹20 billion (₹2,000 crore), with Johar retaining a 50% stake after completion. Forbes

Those are transaction terms and a company-level valuation, not a second estimate of Johar’s personal net worth. A stake’s implied value does not by itself establish what an individual owns after accounting for other assets, liabilities, taxes, or personal income. It would therefore be misleading to multiply the reported stake by the transaction valuation and call the result Johar’s net worth.
Dharma’s official overview identifies Johar and Adar Poonawalla as owners and describes the company as a film studio, production house, and distribution business. It says Dharma has produced more than 60 films and lists Dharmatic Entertainment, Dharma 2.0, and Dharma Collab Artists Agency among its business branches. The page describes Johar as a producer, director, talk-show host, and entrepreneur, but does not disclose his personal earnings from those activities. Dharma Productions

What Johar has said about his finances
In a report dated 27 February 2026, The Indian Express quoted Johar discussing the gap between his projected lifestyle and his bank balance: “I may live a certain life and project a certain lifestyle but please look at my accounts and it will be ‘yeh toh naam bada hai darshan chota hai’.” The comment offers personal context, but no numerical correction to the Hurun estimate. The same report says Johar speculated that Poonawalla might seek an exit from the Dharma deal at some point; it describes a possibility, not a completed exit. The Indian Express

How to read headlines about celebrity wealth
- Check who is making the estimate. The ₹1,880 crore figure is attributed to Hurun’s 2025 list and reported by Mint.
- Separate personal wealth from company value. Dharma’s implied ₹2,000 crore valuation refers to the company in the reported transaction, not Johar’s total finances.
- Look for a disclosed method or financial statement. The available reporting does not provide a detailed calculation for Johar’s estimate.
- Do not treat lifestyle as a balance sheet. Public appearances and comments about spending do not establish assets, debt, income, or net worth.
