Kalshi announced a $300 million Series D at a $5 billion valuation on October 10, 2025, two days after Intercontinental Exchange (ICE)—not the New York Stock Exchange itself—announced an investment of up to $2 billion in Polymarket at an approximately $8 billion pre-investment valuation. Those figures describe separate private-company financing announcements, not public-market values. Kalshi later announced a $22 billion valuation in May 2026; Polymarket’s latest valuation is not established by the available announcements.
What the October 2025 announcements said
| Company | Announcement date | Financing terms | Investor or backer | Strategic element |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kalshi | October 10, 2025 | $300 million Series D at a $5 billion valuation; the announcement does not state a pre-investment basis. | Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital co-led the round. | Kalshi said the funding supported its expansion; it also claimed users in more than 140 countries and a single global liquidity pool. Those operating and growth claims were company-reported. |
| Polymarket | October 7, 2025 | ICE announced an investment of up to $2 billion at an approximately $8 billion pre-investment valuation. “Up to” stated a ceiling, not that the full amount was paid at announcement. | Intercontinental Exchange, owner of the NYSE—not the NYSE as a separate investor. | ICE planned to distribute Polymarket’s event-driven data to institutional investors globally. The companies also agreed to work together on future tokenization initiatives. |
The valuation bases are not fully aligned: ICE explicitly called Polymarket’s $8 billion figure pre-investment, while Kalshi’s October announcement stated a $5 billion valuation without specifying the same basis. The headline numbers alone do not establish ownership percentages, enterprise values, or a direct measure of which company was “worth more.”
How ICE’s Polymarket investment unfolded
ICE’s October 2025 announcement described a possible investment of up to $2 billion. In a March 2026 update, ICE said it had made a $1 billion direct investment in October 2025 and a further $600 million direct investment in March 2026. ICE also expected to purchase up to $40 million of Polymarket securities from existing holders. The later notice did not disclose valuation terms for the March investment, saying those were expected after Polymarket’s fundraising.
As a result, the $8 billion figure should be described as the approximate pre-investment valuation attached to ICE’s October 2025 announcement—not as Polymarket’s established current valuation. The later amounts reported by ICE do not, by themselves, provide an updated valuation.

Kalshi’s $5 billion figure is no longer its latest announced valuation
On May 7, 2026, Kalshi announced a $1 billion Series F at a $22 billion valuation. That later company announcement superseded the October 2025 $5 billion figure as the latest valuation disclosed in the announcements covered here. It does not change what Kalshi announced in October; it changes which figure is latest.
Kalshi co-founder and CEO Tarek Mansour said event contracts could become a trillion-dollar market. That was his view in the company’s funding announcement, not an independently established estimate of market size.

What ICE’s backing meant—and did not mean
ICE described Polymarket as a platform where users buy and sell shares tied to possible event outcomes, with trades matched peer-to-peer through smart contracts. Its stated strategic role included distributing Polymarket data to institutional investors. That is a business and data-distribution relationship; it should not be confused with an NYSE listing, a public-market endorsement, or an equity investment announced by the NYSE itself.
ICE Chair and CEO Jeffrey C. Sprecher framed the investment as a connection between ICE and a company working in decentralized finance. Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan said the partnership was a step toward bringing prediction markets into the financial mainstream. These statements describe the executives’ rationale and perspective, not a guarantee of commercial success.

Polymarket access depends on which service a user means
Polymarket’s U.S. and international offerings have different operating structures, funding methods, and contract availability, according to the Associated Press. The U.S. service has a narrower set of contracts. Availability and rules can change, so a financing announcement should not be read as confirmation that any particular market or funding method is available to every user.
