Josh Piscitelli, a 28-year-old Perth man and father, died on 14 July 2024 after a recurrence of squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, PerthNow reported. His friend and work colleague Callan Oorschot organized a fundraiser intended to help Josh’s wife, Chelsea, and their young son, Hunter, with funeral and future living expenses. The campaign’s current donation status has not been established.
What happened to Josh Piscitelli?
PerthNow reported that Piscitelli was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue in June 2023. He underwent surgery to remove cancerous tissue in July 2023, then received radiotherapy through October 2023. His first routine PET scan six months later showed that the cancer had returned. The report said chemotherapy was not working, and that he died on 14 July 2024.
The GoFundMe page, written by organizer Callan Oorschot, gives additional details: it says the cancer had spread to lymph nodes in Josh’s neck, describes chemotherapy and a severe complication, and says treatment was deemed unsuccessful and his condition terminal. Those details are the organizer’s account on the fundraiser page.
What was the fundraiser for?
PerthNow reported that Oorschot, Josh’s friend and work colleague, launched the fundraiser to support Chelsea and Hunter with funeral and future living expenses. The GoFundMe page names Oorschot as organizer and Joshua Piscitelli as beneficiary, and preserves the campaign’s original purpose and Oorschot’s account of the family’s circumstances.
