What is the reported Nottingham Forest salary?
SalarySport lists Shelvey’s 2023 Nottingham Forest entry at £80,000 per week, or £4,160,000 per year. This is a third-party database estimate, not an official disclosure from Nottingham Forest or a confirmed contract figure. The database entry does not establish his take-home pay, tax, bonuses, image-rights income or the exact terms of his contract. SalarySport’s player listing is the source for the estimate.
Newcastle United confirmed that Shelvey joined Forest permanently in January 2023 for an undisclosed transfer fee, but its announcement did not reveal his salary. A transfer fee and a player’s wages are separate figures; the undisclosed fee cannot be used to verify the database estimate.
Is Leeds eyeing a move for Shelvey?
The evidence reviewed does not substantiate Leeds interest, and a playing transfer is not a current possibility on the available information. Newcastle United announced on 15 April 2026 that Shelvey had retired from professional football after an 18-year career and would become manager of Arabian Falcons, a UAE third-tier club. The retirement announcement supersedes the old framing of a prospective Leeds move.

Why his UAE wage comments are not a Forest comparison
In a BBC interview published in 2025, Shelvey said: “The ballpark of the standard wage here is £2,000-a-month for a footballer.” He was talking about the UAE Second Division, not Nottingham Forest, and added: “In terms of what I’ve earned throughout my career, that’s nothing.” The remark concerns a different league and period, so it should not be treated as another figure for his Forest contract.

What is confirmed about his Forest spell?
Newcastle United’s announcement on 31 January 2023 confirmed Shelvey’s permanent move to Forest for an undisclosed fee. It recorded 202 competitive appearances and 18 goals for Newcastle, but supplied no Forest wage details. Newcastle’s April 2026 announcement later described his spells at Forest and Burnley as short and noted subsequent periods in Turkey with Çaykur Rizespor and Eyüpspor before his move into management.
A FourFourTwo interview published on 4 October 2026 recounts the Turkey period, but it does not establish a Leeds approach or a current playing contract.
