What did John Textor say about Sheffield Wednesday?
In a report published on 8 October 2025, FourFourTwo attributed comments to Textor from an appearance on The Added Time podcast. The report quoted him saying, “I would say it’s really complicated.”
As FourFourTwo recounted it, Textor said Sheffield Wednesday was among the clubs his group had been looking at. He also referred to difficulties involving the club’s owner and the league, and said his group was one of three or four parties receiving an appropriate degree of openness from the owner. Those remarks indicate interest and discussions, but do not establish that Textor made a bid or agreed to buy the club.
Was Textor trying to buy Sheffield Wednesday?
The October 2025 comments show that his group had considered the club and was among several parties in contact with then-owner Dejphon Chansiri. They do not confirm a formal offer, an agreed transaction or a successful takeover. The remarks are reported by FourFourTwo; the original podcast’s full context is not established here.

Who acquired Sheffield Wednesday?
The club’s administrators completed an asset sale to Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch with Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The EFL announced the transfer on 2 May 2026, saying the club had met relevant league requirements and was no longer considered in administration. The administrators, Begbies Traynor Group (BTG), confirmed completion in a notice published on 5 May 2026. BBC Sport also reported the completed acquisition on 2 May.
The sale is the later, completed outcome; it should not be conflated with Textor’s earlier expression of interest. The EFL described the transaction as a transfer of the club’s assets, rather than simply announcing a change of shareholder.

What EFL conditions applied after the sale?
The EFL said it would not impose a 15-point deduction when the club exited administration. It also said Sheffield Wednesday would remain subject to a budget restriction for the next two seasons, and that player registrations would have to comply with an agreed business plan. These were league conditions announced alongside the 2 May 2026 ownership update.
