Textor’s reported interest in Wednesday dates to 2025; the available evidence does not link him to either the completed Wednesday sale or Derby’s deal.
What is the latest John Textor update?
No new October 2026 statement from John Textor about Sheffield Wednesday or Derby County is established by the available reporting. The update is the outcome of the two separate takeover processes: Wednesday moved to new ownership, and Derby’s discussions with Lion Sport ended without a deal.
Textor’s connection is historical and limited to reported interest in Sheffield Wednesday in 2025. The Guardian reported that he had registered interest with then-owner Dejphon Chansiri and sought discussions; that report did not establish a completed bid or agreement (The Guardian, August 2025).
What happened to Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover?
Arise Capital Partners was selected as preferred bidder
On 10 March 2026, Wednesday’s administrators announced that Arise Capital Partners LLC had been selected as preferred bidder. The club named David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as members of the consortium and said it had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds (Sheffield Wednesday, 10 March 2026).

The EFL confirmed the asset transfer
On 2 May 2026, the EFL said the administrators had concluded an agreement with Arise to transfer the club’s assets. The league said Wednesday was no longer in administration. It also imposed a budget restriction for two seasons and required player registrations to comply with the agreed business plan (EFL, 2 May 2026).
EFL chief executive Trevor Birch described the preceding period as “an extremely testing time” for the club and those associated with it. The league’s announcement characterized the transfer as a successful conclusion to the administration process.

What happened to Derby County’s takeover talks?
Derby County’s official statement index records that on 10 August 2026, discussions with Lion Sport to buy a controlling interest in the club would no longer proceed (Derby County club statements). Owner David Clowes later wrote that the club had expected a takeover to complete before the plan collapsed.
Derby’s June supporters’ board notes said the club was in conversation with multiple interested parties, but would not identify or confirm specific parties until regulatory and legal processes permitted (Derby County, June 2026 supporters’ board notes). Those notes do not show which parties, if any, remained involved after the Lion Sport discussions ended.

A report published on 7 October 2026 identified Turki Alalshikh as the proposed buyer and said the collapse shortly before completion disrupted transfer planning, citing manager John Eustace. Those details come from secondary reporting, not the cited official club statements (BBC Sport, 7 October 2026). The official materials cited here do not explicitly connect Lion Sport and Alalshikh, and neither source establishes a link to Textor.
How the two takeover stories differ
| Club | Latest established outcome | Textor connection |
|---|---|---|
| Sheffield Wednesday | Asset transfer to Arise Capital Partners concluded; the EFL confirmed the change on 2 May 2026. | Reported interest in 2025; no evidence here that Textor participated in the completed sale. |
| Derby County | Discussions with Lion Sport for a controlling interest would not proceed, according to the club’s 10 August 2026 statement. | No connection to Textor is established by the official statements or the cited October report. |
What can be said about Textor’s wider football activity?
A public statement attributed to Textor discusses RWDM’s ownership dispute and funding during 2026 (John Textor statement on RWDM). That is context about another football-business matter, not evidence of a bid for Wednesday or involvement in Derby’s takeover discussions.
