Charlton is the only one of the three with a live sale process, and the buyer search there was run by the owners and an adviser, not by Textor. Textor’s Watford connection is past investment talks with owner Gino Pozzo. The QPR story concerns a change in ownership that does not involve him.
This article sets out what has been reported, separates it from claims that have not been verified, and explains why a reliable valuation of any of these clubs cannot be produced from the information currently public.
What has been reported for each club
| Club | Latest reported development | Textor link in the reporting | Published valuation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Charlton Athletic | The Guardian reported on 3 August 2026 that the US owners had engaged Oakwell Sports Advisory to find a buyer. | None identified. No bidder is named in the report. | None. The around £15m paid in 2023 is a historic purchase price. |
| Watford | No sale or ownership change is reported in the material reviewed. | Past talks with owner Gino Pozzo about investing at Vicarage Road, as reported by The Guardian. The report does not date these talks. | None found. |
| QPR | Liverpool.com reported on 23 July 2026 that QPR confirmed Amit Bhatia had agreed to transfer his ownership to majority owner Ruben Gnanalingam and had left the board. | No Textor approach is established in the report. | None found. |
Sale status can change quickly, so the Charlton position above reflects reporting from August 2026 and should be checked against current club and press statements before you rely on it.
Charlton Athletic: a sale process, not a bid
The Guardian’s August 2026 report says a buyer would become the club’s fifth owner in six years. That detail matters more than any headline price, because it describes an ownership history with frequent changes of control, which buyers and lenders would examine closely.

The historic price
The Guardian reported that Global Football Partners paid around £15m for Charlton in 2023. That is what someone paid three years earlier. It is not an asking price, and it does not tell you what a buyer would pay now, because it does not reflect the club’s debts, its lease, its results or what has happened since.
The adviser’s case for buying
According to The Guardian, the Oakwell sales deck described Charlton as “the last remaining football club upside opportunity in London” and claimed potential five-to-ten-times equity growth through promotion to the Premier League, commercial expansion and investment in women’s football. These are the adviser’s promotional claims. They have not been independently verified, and a sales deck is written to attract buyers.

The stadium
The Valley has a reported capacity of 27,000. Charlton does not own the stadium. The Guardian reported that the club’s lease runs to 2040. Anyone assessing the club has to treat this as a leasehold business: the stadium value is not part of what a buyer owns, and rent and lease terms affect future cash flow.
Watford: past talks, nothing current
The Guardian reported that Textor had previously held talks with Pozzo about investing at Vicarage Road. Talks that did not lead to a deal are not a bid, and nothing in the reporting reviewed shows a current approach. If a future approach is reported, it should be checked against whether it concerns a minority stake or control of the club, since those are different transactions.

QPR: an ownership change without a Textor link
The QPR report concerns Amit Bhatia’s exit. Liverpool.com reported that the club confirmed he had agreed to transfer his ownership to Ruben Gnanalingam, the majority owner, and had left the board. The report did not establish any Textor approach, and it did not include a valuation. The headline connection to Textor therefore comes from the title’s framing rather than from this story.
Why the Crystal Palace deal is not a valuation for these clubs
Textor’s most significant completed transaction in this area was linked to Crystal Palace, and its reported terms differ by source. The Guardian reported in June 2025 a signed offer of £190m for a 44.9% stake. BBC Sport reported on 24 July 2025 that Woody Johnson completed the purchase of Eagle Football Holdings’ stake, which it described as 43%, in a deal believed to be worth close to £190m. The two reports disagree on the percentage, and the sources do not give a full breakdown of debts or payment terms.

That deal shows what a stake in a Premier League club can fetch in a single transaction. It does not translate into a value for QPR, Charlton or Watford. A stake price reflects one buyer, one percentage, one set of rights and one moment in time. It cannot be scaled up to a whole club without knowing the debt, the liabilities, any control premium and the structure of the sale.
BBC Sport also reported that UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules were relevant to the Palace sale, because Textor’s interests in Palace and Lyon both qualified for the Europa League. That is historical context for the Palace transaction. It is not a statement about the regulatory position of any QPR, Charlton or Watford deal.

What an honest valuation would need
An AI tool, an analyst or a journalist can only produce a credible number when the inputs exist. For these three clubs, the public record is missing most of them. A useful valuation would distinguish five things:
- Transaction evidence: historic purchase prices, completed stake sales and confirmed bids, each with a date and a named source.
- Control and ownership: whether the interest is a minority stake or control of the club, and who the owners are on the report date.
- Stadium and property: whether the club owns or leases its ground, the lease term, the capacity and any known capital obligations.
- Football and commercial upside: league status, realistic promotion prospects, and evidence of commercial or women’s-football income rather than projections.
- Financial and governance risk: debt, funding needs, liabilities, regulatory constraints and the credibility of any investment plan.
Industry commentary, including Q5 Partners’ 2026 sector report, points to promotion, expansion, media income, governance and disciplined capital allocation as the factors that matter in sports investment. Those are reasonable tests to apply to any sale story. They are not a valuation method, and the report’s Wrexham example concerns that club alone.
What would change the picture
Treat a new headline as meaningful only if it includes some of the following:
- A named bidder and a stated structure, such as a minority stake, a majority stake or full control.
- An agreed price, or a reliable report of one, with the percentage stated and the source identified.
- Confirmation from the club, the owners or the Football Association’s ownership process where relevant.
- Disclosure of debt or funding arrangements that would transfer with the club.
Until those appear, the honest answer to “what are QPR, Charlton and Watford worth?” is that nobody has published a figure that can be trusted.
