In 2023, he bought a majority interest in worldwide publishing rights to his Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) songs, but the purchase price was undisclosed—and Concord retained the CCR master recordings. The deal is important context, not a basis for calculating his personal wealth.
What is John Fogerty’s net worth?
A verified current net-worth figure has not been established. Net worth means assets minus liabilities; estimating it would require information about both sides of that balance sheet, along with a defensible valuation of assets such as music rights. The available sources do not provide those figures for Fogerty.

Celebrity net-worth estimates that do not identify their sources, valuation method, and date should be treated as unverified, not as confirmed financial facts. Album sales, royalties, touring, and a prominent catalog may contribute to an artist’s finances, but they do not reveal personal assets, debts, taxes, or other liabilities.
What did Fogerty acquire in 2023?
On January 12, 2023, Fogerty announced that he had acquired a majority interest in worldwide publishing rights to his historic CCR song catalog from Concord. He said, “As of this January, I own my own songs again,” and added that he had “a say in where and how my songs are used.” Fogerty’s announcement describes the publishing interest and his renewed role in decisions about use of the songs.

Concord described the purchase price as an undisclosed sum. Without a disclosed price or details about Fogerty’s wider finances, the transaction cannot be used to calculate his net worth.
Publishing rights are not the same as master recordings
Publishing rights concern the songs as compositions, including elements such as lyrics and melody. Master rights concern particular recorded performances. Concord said it retained the CCR master recordings in its catalog and would continue administering Fogerty’s share of publishing for a limited, unspecified period. The deal therefore should not be described as Fogerty buying every right to every CCR recording.

What is known about his royalty history?
Concord says Fogerty relinquished artist royalties in 1980 as part of leaving his Fantasy deal. After Concord acquired Fantasy in 2004, it reinstated and increased his artist royalties. These historical details help explain the complicated relationship between Fogerty and the rights to his music; they do not establish his current royalty income or total wealth. Concord’s announcement covers the 2023 transaction and the royalty history.
A Supreme Court opinion recounts a separate dispute that illustrates why authorship and rights ownership should not be conflated: Fantasy sued over an alleged resemblance between Fogerty’s “The Old Man Down the Road” and “Run Through the Jungle,” whose publishing rights Fogerty had sold. A jury found for Fogerty. The case is historical context, not evidence of his present financial position. The Supreme Court opinion in Fogerty v. Fantasy describes the case.

What his recent music says—and does not say—about wealth
In 2025, Fogerty released Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years, rerecording 20 CCR songs with his sons. The Guardian reported that Fogerty owned the 69 songs he wrote for CCR. This offers recent career and catalog context, but neither the song count nor the rerecording project establishes a net-worth figure or the income he receives from the catalog. The Guardian’s 2025 interview discusses the project.

A credible estimate should make clear what it values, how it reached the figure, and when the estimate applies. For musicians, it should also distinguish composition publishing rights from master recordings, and consider liabilities and taxes rather than listing only visible assets or career earnings. No substantiated competing estimates or qualified analyst valuation were found in the sources reviewed for this article.
Quick Recap
Best Value
Rank #4
- Guns N' Roses Greatest Hits was released in 2004 and has sold over 5 million copies
- Look for a date: Net worth can change, so an undated figure is difficult to evaluate.
- Look for a method: A number without explained assumptions or source documents is not independently checkable.
- Check what rights are included: Publishing interests and master recordings are distinct assets.
- Do not equate a deal price with personal wealth: The terms of Fogerty’s 2023 purchase were not disclosed, and a transaction price alone would not account for his other assets or liabilities.
