Jetstar’s current Japan promotion does not verify the advertised $249 one-way fare. The airline’s 6 October 2026 announcement instead offers a free return Starter fare on selected flights when you buy an eligible outbound fare. Its published Japan examples start at $449 outbound to Osaka and $479 to Tokyo; availability and the final itinerary price depend on the dates and flights shown at booking.
What Jetstar’s current Japan sale actually offers
Jetstar says 14,000 return fares are available from $0. To qualify, book an eligible outbound Starter fare to Osaka (Kansai), Tokyo (Narita) or Seoul (Incheon), then select a participating return Starter fare on an eligible flight and date. The free return is conditional—not a standalone ticket available on every route or day. Jetstar’s 6 October 2026 announcement gives these example outbound fares:
| Outbound route | Published outbound fare | Return offer |
|---|---|---|
| Cairns–Osaka | From $449 | One selected return Starter fare free when the qualifying conditions are met |
| Cairns–Tokyo | From $479 | One selected return Starter fare free when the qualifying conditions are met |
| Sydney–Osaka | From $569 | One selected return Starter fare free when the qualifying conditions are met |
The announcement presents these amounts with a dollar sign but does not explicitly identify the currency in the retrieved text. They are example sale fares, not guaranteed prices for every itinerary. The published Japan examples are outbound fares; they do not substantiate a $249 one-way Japan ticket.
When and where the sale applies
Jetstar says travel is on selected dates in May–July 2027. Route-specific availability is limited, and the free return may not be offered for the dates you want. Club Jetstar members received 12 hours of early access; public access follows, with the sale scheduled to end at 11.59pm AEDT on Friday, 9 October 2026, unless sold out sooner. Check the official sale page for live availability and booking conditions.

How to check the real trip cost
- Search the official sale page for your departure airport and destination, then choose outbound and return dates within the stated travel window.
- Confirm that the outbound is an eligible Starter fare and that the chosen return flight is marked as part of the free-return offer. Do not assume that a $0 return is available simply because the sale advertises fares from $0.
- Compare the total shown for both flights and check the precise itinerary before paying. Jetstar says sale prices are based on payment at jetstar.com; Afterpay and Zip payment fees may apply.
- Review baggage and operating-airline details for both legs. The sale excludes checked baggage, so add it to the trip cost if needed.
Because the return is tied to selected flights and dates, compare complete round trips—not just the outbound headline fare. A different date combination may change whether the free return is available and what you pay for the outbound.
