JetBlue raised checked-bag fees in March 2026, citing rising operating costs and a goal of keeping base fares competitive. The reported March prices are not a universal current rate: today’s charge depends on your route, fare, bag number, travel date, payment timing and any eligible baggage benefit. What changed in the March 2026 increase?
Business Travel News reported on March 31, 2026, that many standard domestic and regional economy customers would pay more for checked bags. For the first bag, the reported fee rose from $35 off-peak and $40 peak to $39 and $49, respectively, when purchased within 24 hours of departure. Paying more than 24 hours ahead reduced the fee by $10. The reported second-bag fees rose from $50 off-peak and $60 peak to $59 and $69.
Those are the figures reported for the March increase, not a rate that applies to every current JetBlue booking. The airline’s live fee table is more specific and can vary by route, fare, date and when you add the bag.
Why JetBlue said it raised fees
JetBlue attributed the increase to rising operating costs and said it wanted to keep base fares competitive while continuing to invest in the customer experience. In a statement quoted by Business Travel News, the airline said: “Adjusting fees for optional services used by select customers, such as checked baggage, allows us to continue offering more competitive fares.” The report does not establish jet fuel as the sole cause.

How much does JetBlue charge for a checked bag now?
JetBlue’s current policy page lists the following first- and second-bag fees for Main Base, Main, Main Flex, EvenMore Base, EvenMore and EvenMore Flex on routes within the U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada. The first-bag amounts below reflect the page’s displayed price when added more than 24 hours before departure; the page notes savings of $4 off-peak and $10 during peak periods. Confirm the amount for your exact trip using JetBlue’s calculator.

These listed amounts are not a complete price quote for every fare or itinerary. JetBlue’s categories and benefits vary, and transatlantic and other route-specific rules may differ. Use the airline’s itinerary calculator rather than applying the table to a route it does not cover.

What determines your total
- Route: The displayed table covers routes within the U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada; other itineraries can have different rules.
- Fare and benefits: Some fare types include bags, and certain eligible cardmembers or Mosaic members may receive a first-bag benefit. Eligibility and conditions vary; not every cardholder, member or premium-fare traveler receives the same allowance.
- Number of bags: First- and second-bag charges differ. Check the applicable policy for any additional bag.
- Payment timing: Adding the first two bags at least 24 hours before departure can save up to $10 per bag.
- Travel date: Peak-period fees can be higher than off-peak fees. JetBlue’s policy lists October 10–14, 2026, as peak dates; check the live page for other dates.
How to estimate your baggage cost
- Open JetBlue’s baggage information page and use its bag-fee calculator for your itinerary.
- Check your fare’s included baggage and whether you qualify for a specific cardmember, Mosaic or other benefit. Apply only the benefit whose eligibility terms match your booking.
- Enter the number of bags and compare the applicable date and route charges. If you can add the first two bags at least 24 hours before departure, check whether the advance-purchase savings apply.
- For a round trip, budget for each direction: JetBlue says bag fees apply each way.
JetBlue says baggage fees are refundable only if the entire booking is canceled before its scheduled departure. Review the current terms for your booking before paying.

JetBlue lists a standard checked-bag maximum of 50 pounds and 62 linear inches, calculated by adding length, width and height. A bag weighing 51–99 pounds carries a listed $150 overweight charge; one measuring 63–80 inches carries a listed $150 oversized charge. If a bag exceeds both limits, both charges can apply. Bags beyond those stated acceptance limits and market-specific exceptions require separate confirmation with JetBlue.

A luggage scale can help you check weight before leaving home, but it cannot guarantee the airline’s final measurement or remove the standard checked-bag fee. Measure the bag as well as weighing it.
