The last date to challenge the provisional JEE Main 2024 Session 1 answer key was 9 February 2024 at 11:00 PM. NTA accepted the related fee payment until 11:50 PM that night. This was a historical deadline; the submission window has closed.

Which deadline applied?

NTA revised its original schedule after a server technical glitch. Its revised notice stated: “The schedule has been revised due to a technical glitch in the server, as per the details given below:” The revised schedule, rather than the earlier date in the initial notice, set the operative cutoff.

Schedule item Initial notice Revised notice (operative)
Last time to submit a challenge 8 February 2024, 11:00 PM 9 February 2024, 11:00 PM
Last time to pay the fee 8 February 2024, 11:50 PM 9 February 2024, 11:50 PM

The initial notice set a 6–8 February challenge period; the revised notice set the window as 7–9 February. This explains why some earlier reports or saved copies show 8 February as the last date. NTA revised notice, 6 February 2024; NTA initial notice, 6 February 2024.

What could candidates challenge, and what did it cost?

NTA made provisional answer keys and recorded responses available for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.), Paper 2A (B.Arch.) and Paper 2B (B.Planning). Candidates submitted challenges online through the JEE Main website. The non-refundable processing fee was ₹200 per question challenged, payable by debit card, credit card or net banking under the revised notice.

How the challenge process worked

The revised notice directed candidates to log in using their application number and date of birth, complete the displayed security PIN, choose a question and challenge option, and upload supporting documents as a single PDF. Candidates then had to save their claims and pay the fee for each question challenged.

NTA also allowed candidates who had submitted challenges without the appropriate Question ID or Option ID to challenge again; fees paid for their earlier submissions would be refunded.

How challenges affected the answer key and results

NTA said a challenge found correct would lead to a revised answer key applied to all candidates’ responses. The results would be prepared using the revised final answer keys. Candidates would not receive individual notification about whether their challenge was accepted; the keys finalized by experts after settling challenges would be final.

Read NTA’s revised notice for the official schedule and challenge instructions. The initial schedule is available in NTA’s original notice.
