Local reporting said Lehi police were investigating complaints. Jane.com now says it was revitalized in 2024, but that company statement does not establish what happened to sellers’ 2023 balances. A separate business called Jane’s Boutique in Ashford, England, closed its shop in 2022 but said it continued trading online.
Which Jane business shut down?
The name is ambiguous. Jane.com was a U.S. online marketplace for independent sellers; Jane’s Boutique is a family-run fashion retailer in Ashford, Kent. Their closures were different events.

The rest of this article focuses on Jane.com, the likely subject of the question about a shutdown. Jane’s Boutique’s own About page and news posts describe its move to online-only trading, not the end of its business.
What happened to Jane.com in 2023?
Jane.com began in 2011, according to the company and a KSL profile. It started as a daily-deal site and developed into a curated marketplace connecting shoppers with independent sellers. In an April 2023 profile, KSL reported that Jane had more than 2,000 sellers and was shifting toward an evergreen marketplace model.

On November 17, 2023, visitors saw a “down for maintenance” notice on the site. Sellers told KSL they had gone weeks without payment, and a former employee told the outlet staff had been let go without severance. KSL reported that Lehi police were investigating complaints. The Salt Lake Tribune described the closure as sudden and the company as heading toward liquidation.
These are contemporaneous reports of complaints and an investigation, not a final legal finding. The cited coverage does not establish a definitive cause for the shutdown, the investigation’s outcome, or the final financial or legal status of the company.

How much money did sellers say they were owed?
Some sellers gave KSL specific figures, but they were claims attributed to those sellers, not audited balances. Qualtry CEO Brian Kunz told KSL-TV, “We were owed a little over $50,000.” Another seller, Laura Mederos, said she was owed close to $2,000. KSL said it had not verified seller-submitted figures that potentially reached hundreds of thousands of dollars.
There is no confirmed aggregate debt figure in the cited reporting. Jane’s seller agreement addresses remitting amounts owed on termination subject to its contract terms; that language does not show whether any particular seller was paid.

Is Jane.com still in business?
Jane.com’s current About page says the marketplace was revitalized in 2024, with a renewed promise to rebuild trust and support sellers. That is the company’s account of a revival. The page alone does not establish continuity of ownership, assets, or management, and it does not resolve the payment claims from 2023.
The available reporting and company statement do not establish whether the reported seller balances were ultimately settled or what became of the police investigation. Readers with a specific unpaid balance would need to rely on direct communication or formal records relevant to their claim rather than infer its status from the relaunch statement.

Why did Jane.com shut down?
The sources cited here do not provide a verified explanation from Jane.com leadership for the 2023 shutdown. The reporting documents the site going offline, seller complaints about payments, employee departures, and a police investigation; it does not prove that any one of those circumstances was the definitive cause. It would therefore be inaccurate to state a specific financial cause, fraud, or insolvency finding as settled fact.
Why does Jane’s Boutique appear in searches about Jane.com?
Jane’s Boutique in Ashford published a September 21, 2022 explanation for closing its physical shop. It cited weaker town-centre footfall after COVID restrictions, parking closures, and problems in its shopping centre, and said it would trade online only. That was a change in how the Kent retailer operated, not evidence that Jane.com had shut down or that the boutique stopped trading.
