What did Jackie Gleason leave his wife and daughters?
UPI reported that Gleason’s original will left half of his estate to his third wife, Marilyn, $25,000 to his secretary, Sydell Spear, and the remainder to his two daughters. The report said an amendment dated June 23, 1987—the day before Gleason died—changed the wife’s share to one-third and Spear’s bequest to $100,000, with the balance still going to the daughters. UPI’s contemporary report said Gleason was reportedly too ill to sign the amendment and that business associate Richard Green signed for him. These are reported will terms; they are not an independently verified probate accounting.

Why the reported $11 million figure is not his net worth
A 1987 Washington Post obituary says Gleason recalled a 1985 contract negotiation in which his goal was $11 million. That figure describes a reported negotiating objective—not proof that he signed a contract for that amount, received that amount, or had $11 million in net worth. It cannot establish the value of his estate two years later.

Gleason was a comedian, actor, musician, writer, composer, and conductor. The Television Academy identifies his signature role as bus driver Ralph Kramden on The Honeymooners and notes that later syndication brought the show to new audiences. It records that he was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1986. The Academy’s biography gives his birth date as February 26, 1916, and his date of death as June 24, 1987; he was 71.
