Yes. On February 12, 2026, Israeli authorities announced arrests of several suspects, including reservists, over alleged Polymarket bets on military operations using classified information. Authorities said a reservist and a civilian would face prosecution. Later court reporting described specific alleged bets, but the claims are not convictions, and the reviewed sources do not establish a final judgment.
What Israeli authorities announced
Israel’s Shin Bet, Ministry of Defense and police said several people had been arrested over bets on Polymarket concerning military operations. In the joint announcement, the agencies said the bets were “based on classified information to which the reservists were exposed by virtue of their military roles,” as quoted in The Times of Israel’s February 12, 2026 report. The authorities said evidence had been assembled and prosecutors decided to prosecute a reservist and a civilian.
The initial announcement did not name the defendants or specify individual bets. Reported charges included serious security offenses, bribery and obstruction of justice. Charges and allegations describe what prosecutors accuse defendants of doing; they do not establish guilt.
What later court reporting alleges
Later reports, citing indictment and court-proceeding details, identified the reservist as an unnamed Israeli Air Force major. According to The Times of Israel’s account, the indictment alleges that the major learned about the June 2025 operation against Iran before it took place and passed information to a civilian associate, who placed bets. The outlet reported alleged winnings of $162,663 on a bet about the operation’s timing, to be split between the two. That amount is a reported allegation from the indictment, not a court finding or a confirmed recovery.

The Guardian’s later account described other alleged bets connected with a subsequent operation in Yemen and alleged efforts to conceal communications. Those claims, too, are allegations reported from case materials. The reports may describe different bets or totals; the $162,663 figure should not be treated as the total proceeds from all alleged activity.
What the IDF said about operational harm
The IDF called the alleged use of highly classified information for personal gain a serious ethical failure and said it would sharpen procedures across its units. It also said that “according to the findings of the investigation, no operational harm was caused in the current incident,” as quoted by The Times of Israel. This is the military’s assessment; the reviewed sources do not provide an independent operational-harm measurement.

What is known—and what remains unresolved
- Israeli agencies announced arrests of multiple suspects, including reservists and a civilian, and said one reservist and one civilian would be prosecuted.
- Later press accounts described alleged advance information about the June 2025 Iran operation, a civilian bettor, and reported winnings, while attributing those details to indictment or court materials.
- The reviewed sources do not establish a final judgment, sentence or ultimate disposition for the Israeli defendants.
The distinction matters: an arrest is not a conviction, and an indictment is an accusation that must be resolved through the legal process. The first official announcement provided limited case detail; later reporting adds allegations, not adjudicated facts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How this differs from the separate U.S. case
A separate U.S. prosecution involved a U.S. soldier and prediction-market bets. The U.S. Department of Justice announcement concerns a different defendant and jurisdiction; it does not establish facts about the Israeli defendants or the Israeli proceeding. The DOJ announcement should be read as a separate case, not as evidence that the same laws or legal standards apply in Israel.
