The story associates Mielle with rosemary, mint, and biotin and mentions a thicker castor oil used before shampooing. Because the extraction is garbled, those clues should not be treated as confirmation of a specific current formula or directions. What can a hair oil realistically do?
An oil may suit someone looking for cosmetic conditioning, shine, or scalp comfort; whether it feels good or works with a particular routine depends on the product and the person. A thicker oil may be harder to wash out, while scent or other ingredients may bother a sensitive scalp. These are practical fit questions, not proof of hair growth.

“Hair growth oil” is a product category and marketing phrase, not a guarantee of follicular regrowth. The writer’s repeat purchases and any personal impression of thicker hair or less shedding cannot establish that an oil caused those changes.
What does the evidence say about rosemary oil?
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says evidence for rosemary oil in the context of female pattern hair loss is limited. Dermatologist Maria Hordinsky, MD, says, “But there are not a lot of good studies on this topic.” That caution does not establish that a retail blend works, or that different formulas and doses are interchangeable. How to choose among the three names
Since the story does not resolve every product identity or provide verified current prices, compare the actual bottles rather than assuming all products under a brand name are the same. Before buying, check:
- Exact product and ingredients: Match the full product name and current label; do not infer a formula from a brand name or an old article.
- How it is meant to be used: Follow the label’s directions. A pre-shampoo oil and a leave-in scalp oil serve different routines.
- Texture and washout: Consider whether you prefer a lighter-feeling product or can comfortably shampoo out a thicker oil.
- Scent and scalp comfort: Fragrance, mint, and other ingredients may not suit everyone. Stop using a product that causes irritation.
- Value: Compare the current bottle size and price yourself; the story does not establish a reliable price-per-volume comparison.
- Claim versus evidence: Treat promises of growth or reduced shedding cautiously unless they are supported by product-specific evidence.
When hair loss deserves more than an oil
Shedding has multiple possible causes, and an oil cannot diagnose them. The AAD says normal shedding is around 50 to 100 hairs a day; that broad range is context, not a threshold that can diagnose a problem. If loss is persistent or noticeable, a dermatologist can help identify the cause and discuss suitable options. The AAD notes topical minoxidil may be an option for some types of hair loss, but it is not an oil and is not appropriate for every cause.
