Why “budget” can mean different things
A film’s production cost covers making the movie; promotion and marketing are separate spending. A database may use a budget figure whose accounting basis is not explained. Without a source defining the $537 million number, it cannot safely be labeled as production spending, total studio outlay, or net cost.
Box-office gross is a different measure altogether: it is ticket revenue before exhibitor shares and other costs. It is not the studio’s profit, and comparing a film’s gross directly with its production estimate does not establish whether it made money. The available figures do not establish a net profit for Deadpool & Wolverine.
