There is no confirmed Tencent bid for Nexon. Bloomberg reported in June 2025 that Tencent was studying a possible acquisition and had reportedly contacted the family of Nexon’s late founder. The Information later reported the opposite: a source with direct knowledge of Tencent’s investment plans said Tencent was neither considering nor pursuing a purchase. Neither account establishes that an offer was made or a deal occurred.
What did Bloomberg report?
Bloomberg published its report on June 12, 2025, and updated it on June 13. Citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, it said Tencent was studying a potential Nexon deal and had reached out to the family of Kim Jung-ju, Nexon’s late founder. Bloomberg also reported that the family was evaluating its options. These are claims attributed to Bloomberg’s sources, not confirmed actions announced by Tencent or Nexon. Bloomberg’s report

Why is the report disputed?
The Information subsequently reported that a person it described as having direct knowledge of Tencent’s investment plans said Tencent was neither considering nor pursuing an acquisition of Nexon. The source also said Tencent had not discussed a deal with Nexon, its parent NXC, or Kim’s family. That is a conflicting account attributed to an unnamed source, not a public statement issued directly by Tencent. The Information’s report
The available reporting does not independently establish whether any private, preliminary contact took place. It also does not establish a formal offer, an agreed transaction, or a change of control. The reports should therefore be read as conflicting accounts of possible interest—not as evidence that Tencent is buying Nexon.

What Tencent’s existing relationship with Nexon does—and does not—mean
Nexon and Embark Studios signed agreements with Tencent in August 2024 for the release of THE FINALS and ARC Raiders in China, according to Nexon’s official news index. That makes Tencent a publishing partner for those China releases. A publishing agreement is a business relationship around particular games and a territory; it is not evidence that Tencent owns Nexon or has agreed to acquire it. Nexon’s news index
Nexon’s official product listing includes THE FINALS and The First Descendant. Their appearance in the headline identifies games in Nexon’s portfolio; it does not imply that Tencent owns either game or Nexon. Nexon’s product listing

What is known about Nexon’s strategy?
In Nexon’s August 8, 2024 earnings release, President and CEO Junghun Lee discussed the company’s IP Growth Initiative. In context, “These” referred to Dungeon&Fighter Mobile in China and The First Descendant: “These represent important proof points for Nexon’s IP Growth Initiative, which leverages extensions on our well-established IP, together with the development of all new games with potential to become enduring pillars of our IP portfolio.” This is historical strategy context, not a comment on Tencent or an acquisition. Does Nexon’s later shareholder notice confirm a Tencent deal?
Nexon’s investor-relations index lists later 2026 disclosures, including a June 19 notice concerning a major shareholder change and a share acquisition equivalent to a tender offer. The index entry alone does not identify Tencent as a party or connect the notice to Bloomberg’s 2025 report. Without the underlying notice’s details, it cannot be used to claim that Tencent made or completed an offer. Nexon’s investor-relations index

Did Tencent make an offer, and who owns the games?
The cited material does not establish that Tencent made a formal offer or bought Nexon. Nexon’s product listing identifies THE FINALS and The First Descendant among its games; Nexon’s China publishing agreements with Tencent for THE FINALS and ARC Raiders are separate from the disputed acquisition reporting. No direct, named public statement from Tencent confirming or denying an approach is established by these sources.
