Spotify has raised prices, but its latest reported global totals show growth—not an overall decline—in users or paid subscribers. That does not prove the increases caused no cancellations: the available figures do not identify why individual subscribers leave, and they cannot establish how many canceled because of price.
Is Spotify losing users after its price increase?
Not according to the latest company-reported totals available here. Spotify reported 777 million monthly active users (MAUs) and 300 million Premium subscribers as of June 30, 2026, in its SEC-filed report for the second quarter of 2026. Those global counts are higher than the figures Spotify reported for the end of 2025.

But rising totals are not a churn study. Spotify can add more users and subscribers overall while some existing customers cancel, including because they object to a price change. The figures do not reveal how many people left for that reason. The evidence therefore does not support the claim that Spotify is losing users overall because of a price hike—or the opposite claim that price increases caused no cancellations.
What do Spotify’s user and subscriber figures show?
Spotify reported the following global quarter-end figures. MAUs count people who used Spotify during a month; Premium subscribers count paid subscriptions. They are different measures and should not be treated as interchangeable.

The earlier release described double-digit year-over-year Premium subscriber growth and record net additions of MAUs for a quarter. These are company-reported aggregate results, not a breakdown of cancellations or their causes. Net growth can coexist with churn: new subscriptions and returning users can outnumber people who leave.
What has Spotify said about price-related churn?
Management says past increases brought “minimal churn”
At Investor Day 2026, Spotify co-CEOs Alex Norström and Gustav Söderström said: “We’ve raised prices multiple times with minimal churn because users see the value and stick around.” This is management’s characterization of its experience, not an independent estimate showing how many subscribers canceled because of price.

Earlier guidance anticipated some churn
In prepared remarks for Q3 2025, Spotify said its outlook for eight million Q4 subscriber net additions included “the expected small amount of churn we see when we raise prices.” That was forward-looking guidance, not a later measurement of price-caused cancellations. A forecast of net additions also does not say how many subscribers might cancel: additions and cancellations both contribute to the net result.
Which Spotify price increase was reported?
Axios reported on January 15, 2026, that Spotify’s U.S. Premium individual monthly price was increasing from $11.99 to $12.99. The report said increases were announced in the United States, Estonia, and Latvia. The dollar figures apply to the U.S. individual plan described in that report; they are not a global price list and should not be assumed to describe other countries, plan tiers, or every account’s actual bill.

Spotify’s Q2 2026 SEC filing says the company periodically updates prices to reflect the value of its evolving offerings. That statement explains the company’s stated approach; it does not establish that subscribers agree with the company’s assessment of value. Axios quoted Spotify’s rationale as: “Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.”
What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
- Overall direction: Spotify’s reported global MAU and Premium totals rose between the end of 2025 and June 30, 2026.
- Individual cancellations: Aggregate totals do not reveal who canceled, when they canceled, or whether price was the reason.
- Price effects: Management statements and forecasts describe the company’s view; they are not independent causal estimates.
- Public reactions: A Reddit discussion includes the phrase “Tired of this price hike,” but one discussion is anecdotal—not a representative survey or evidence of widespread cancellation.
The sources reviewed do not provide an independent churn study or survey that isolates the effect of Spotify’s price changes. As a result, claims that the increase is making Spotify lose users broadly go beyond what these figures establish.

How to decide whether to keep paying
The company-wide totals cannot tell you whether the subscription is worth its price for your household. Check the amount and plan shown on your own account, then weigh the cost against how often you use the service and the features you rely on. If the new bill no longer fits your budget, compare current plans in your country before switching: prices and included features vary by market and plan, and the figures above do not compare alternatives.
