Samsung Care+ is worth considering if you own an expensive Galaxy, are likely to damage or lose it, or cannot comfortably pay several hundred dollars for a repair or replacement. It is often less attractive for careful owners, annual upgraders, lower-cost Galaxy users, and anyone with comparable coverage already in place.
The right answer depends on four numbers: your plan premium, the repair or replacement fee, the device’s likely repair cost, and how much financial risk you can absorb.

Samsung Care+ is best viewed as risk protection and repair convenience, not a guaranteed way to save money. You may pay more than the cost of repairs if nothing goes wrong—but you avoid taking the full financial hit when something does.
What Samsung Care+ actually is
Samsung Care+ is not simply an extended warranty. In the United States, the program can include accidental-damage protection, mechanical-breakdown coverage, repair services, technical support, and—under a separate Theft and Loss version—protection for a lost, stolen, or unrecoverable device.

Samsung describes Care+ with Theft and Loss as combining an insurance product and a service contract, administered through Servify and underwritten through the applicable insurance arrangement. Plan names, administrators, prices, fees, and benefits have changed over time, so older reviews may no longer be reliable. Check Samsung’s current U.S. Care+ information and your benefits summary.
Standard Care+ versus Care+ with Theft and Loss
Standard Samsung Care+
Standard Care+ is primarily for accidental damage and breakdowns. It can cover incidents such as drops, spills, cracked screens, and other accidental damage from handling, subject to the plan’s exclusions and service fees. Samsung also lists mechanical-breakdown and qualifying battery service benefits.
Standard Care+ should not be treated as coverage for theft, misplacement, loss, or an unrecoverable device.

This version adds protection for lost, stolen, and unrecoverable devices. Samsung’s current support information says those claims are limited to three in any consecutive 12-month period. Replacement claims still involve a device-dependent deductible, and the replacement may be new or refurbished—or a comparable model if the same one is unavailable.
Samsung currently lists $0 cracked-screen and back-glass repairs for eligible Theft and Loss coverage on the cited S26 Ultra purchase flow. That benefit is plan- and model-specific; do not assume it applies to every Galaxy device or older plan.
New York has a separate option
Samsung’s product pages identify a separate Theft and Loss insurance option available only in New York. Do not automatically treat that product as identical to the nationwide Care+ with Theft and Loss package. Its accidental-damage benefits, fees, and terms may differ.
What is covered—and what is not
Potentially covered events
- Accidental drops and impacts
- Spills and other accidental damage from handling
- Cracked-screen repairs under the applicable fee schedule
- Mechanical breakdown, subject to plan terms
- Battery service when diagnostics confirm capacity at 79% or less, subject to eligibility and terms
- Theft, loss, and unrecoverable-device claims only with applicable Theft and Loss coverage
- Technical assistance, including Samsung’s advertised 24/7 expert support
Samsung says accidental-damage repairs are unlimited under current Care+ descriptions. “Unlimited” does not mean every repair is free or automatically approved. Common exclusions and claim problems
The governing plan documents control, but readers should generally watch for:
- Intentional damage, abuse, or misuse
- Cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality
- Unauthorized modifications or repairs
- Failure to follow claim, account-security, or return instructions
- Claims made after coverage ends or premiums stop
- Damage outside the plan’s eligible product or geographic rules
- Accessories or products not listed as covered
For a lost device, promptly report the incident, secure the relevant Samsung or Google account, contact the carrier when appropriate, and follow the exact instructions in your plan terms. Do not assume a police report is required—or unnecessary—without checking the applicable terms.
How much does Samsung Care+ cost?
Prices vary by device, plan, state, enrollment timing, and payment method. As a current U.S. example, Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra 256GB purchase page displayed the following prices on August 18, 2026:

For this S26 Ultra example, paying monthly for two years would total $240 for standard Care+ or $360 for Theft and Loss. The upfront options would save $41 and $81 respectively, assuming the price and coverage remain appropriate.

Samsung says pricing is device-dependent. Monthly plans generally continue billing until canceled or terminated under the applicable terms; upfront plans generally provide two years of coverage. Review the exact quote before enrollment.
Fees can change the value calculation
Separate the premium from the cost of using the plan:
- Repair service fee: Samsung currently lists $29 for a cracked-screen repair under the cited standard Care+ example.
- Eligible Theft and Loss screen or back-glass repair: Samsung currently lists $0 for the cited plan and device.
- Theft, loss, or replacement deductible: Samsung’s support page lists a device-dependent range of $99 to $199.
- Mechanical breakdown: Some qualifying claims may have no service fee, according to Samsung’s current support information.
- Unreturned device: Samsung’s FAQ says an unrecovered-equipment fee may apply if a claimed device is not returned as required, potentially up to the manufacturer’s retail price.
Your real cost is therefore:
Total cost = premiums + service fees or deductibles + applicable taxes or other charges.

The break-even math
Do not ask only whether the monthly price looks affordable. Estimate what one covered event would cost.
Standard Care+ example
Using the S26 Ultra example:
- Two-year upfront premium: $199
- One cracked-screen service fee: $29
- Total paid after one covered screen repair: $228
If an uncovered repair would cost substantially more than $228, one repair could justify the plan financially. If you make no claim, the plan will usually be a financial loss compared with paying nothing—but it still bought protection against a larger, uncertain bill.
Theft and Loss example
Using the same two-year upfront premium:
- Premium: $279
- Device-dependent replacement deductible: approximately $99–$199 based on Samsung’s general support range
- Illustrative total after one replacement: approximately $378–$478, before taxes or other applicable charges
This is an illustration, not a guaranteed quote. Confirm your device’s deductible in the benefits summary and plan terms. The plan becomes more defensible when losing or replacing the phone outright would cost materially more than this total—and when the risk of loss is meaningful.
When unlimited repairs matter
Unlimited accidental-damage repairs are valuable mainly for owners who have repeated incidents, expensive repairs, or a long ownership horizon. They can be especially relevant for foldables, whose inner screens and other components may be more specialized.
They are less valuable if you have never damaged a phone, plan to trade it in soon, or own a model inexpensive enough to replace. Unlimited repairs also do not mean unlimited free replacements, unlimited theft claims, or unlimited coverage after missed payments.
Repairs are convenient—but not guaranteed to be same-day
Samsung advertises certified technicians, Samsung Genuine Parts, 24/7 support, and same-day screen repairs in select areas. Same-day service depends on claim approval, parts, technicians, location, device eligibility, and inventory. It is an availability-dependent benefit, not a universal promise.
Before enrolling, check:
- Whether an authorized repair location is nearby
- Whether your model is repaired locally or by mail
- Expected time without the device
- Whether a loaner is available
- Whether a replacement will be new, refurbished, or comparable
- Whether your foldable model has fewer eligible repair locations
A repair that misses a trade-in deadline may be less useful than its headline price suggests. Compare the premium, claim fee, turnaround time, deadline, and additional trade-in value recovered by repairing the phone.

Who should buy standard Care+?
- You mainly fear drops, spills, cracked glass, or breakdowns—not theft or loss.
- Your phone is costly to repair, especially a Fold, Flip, or Ultra model.
- You plan to keep it for two or more years.
- A several-hundred-dollar repair would disrupt your budget.
- You want Samsung-authorized service and genuine parts.
- The model’s exact service fee is substantially lower than likely out-of-pocket repair costs.
Who should choose Theft and Loss?
- You commute, travel, work in public or demanding environments, or have lost phones before.
- The device is expensive enough that replacing it would be financially painful.
- You want loss and theft protection as well as accidental-damage coverage.
- Eligible $0 screen or back-glass repairs have meaningful value for your model.
- You understand the replacement deductible and the three-claim consecutive-12-month limit.
Who should skip Samsung Care+?
Skipping is reasonable when you use a durable case and screen protector, rarely damage devices, upgrade quickly, or have enough savings to pay for a repair or replacement immediately. It is also sensible when the phone’s likely repair cost is close to the total premium plus service fee, or when another policy already covers the same risk.
Self-insurance works best when you can set aside the likely repair or replacement amount now and accept the possibility of a total loss. A case and screen protector reduce risk, but they do not protect against theft, loss, or every accident.

Compare alternatives before enrolling
Carrier protection
Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile offer device-protection options, but the price, deductible, claim limits, repair network, upgrade benefits, and eligibility depend on the carrier and account. Compare the total premiums—not just the monthly charge—with Samsung’s exact quote. Official starting points include Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
Homeowners or renters insurance
These policies may cover theft or accidental damage, but the deductible can be large, claims may affect future premiums, and coverage may be secondary or subject to depreciation. Verify cellphone-specific terms rather than assuming your policy covers every event.
Credit-card cellphone protection
Some cards provide cellphone protection only when the monthly wireless bill is paid with that card. Check whether the benefit covers loss, theft, accidental damage, or cracked screens; whether it is primary or secondary; and the deductible, claim limit, and documentation requirements.
A savings fund
Putting the equivalent premium into a dedicated repair fund gives you flexibility and avoids claim procedures. The trade-off is that the fund may be too small when an early accident or theft occurs.

Enrollment and cancellation warnings
Samsung’s current information says eligible mobile devices can generally be enrolled at purchase and may have a 60-day enrollment window at eligible pricing. Samsung support also references possible enrollment between days 61 and 365 under different pricing or eligibility conditions, depending on the device and offer. Not every device qualifies for late enrollment.

Check the enrollment prompt for your specific device through Samsung’s purchase flow or device settings. If you buy through a carrier or third party, eligibility may differ.
For monthly plans, cancel after upgrading if continued protection no longer makes sense. Also confirm what happens if a payment fails, whether coverage ends immediately, and whether any refund applies to an upfront plan. Samsung’s FAQ contains current payment and return information.
Important edge cases
Foldables
Care+ may be more valuable for a Fold or Flip because repairs can be specialized and costly. Confirm the exact model’s fees and whether inner-screen, outer-screen, hinge, frame, and back-glass damage are treated differently.
Battery aging
Battery service is not an automatic replacement at a percentage chosen by the customer. Samsung currently references service when diagnostics confirm battery capacity at 79% or less, subject to the plan terms.
International travel
Repair support and replacement rules vary by country. Do not assume worldwide replacement or identical international benefits without checking your plan documents and the country where service is needed.
Trade-in timing
If you are repairing before a trade-in, calculate whether the added trade-in value exceeds the claim fee and any remaining premium. A repaired device is not automatically worth repairing if the deadline is close or the value difference is small.
A five-minute decision checklist
- Write down your exact Galaxy model and its current replacement cost.
- Get the current Samsung quote for standard Care+ and Theft and Loss.
- Record the screen-repair fee, replacement deductible, claim limits, and coverage duration.
- Estimate how likely you are to damage, lose, or have the device stolen.
- Check carrier, household, credit-card, employer, or bundled coverage for overlap.
- Ask whether you could pay the full repair or replacement bill tomorrow.
- Check nearby authorized repair options and likely turnaround time.
- Choose standard Care+, Theft and Loss, or self-insurance based on the total risk—not the monthly premium alone.
Bottom line
Samsung Care+ is usually easiest to justify for a costly Galaxy that you will keep for years, particularly a Fold, Flip, or Ultra model, when a large repair bill would strain your finances. Choose the Theft and Loss version only when loss or theft protection is genuinely valuable; standard Care+ does not cover those events.
For a careful owner with savings, a lower-cost Galaxy, a short upgrade cycle, or overlapping insurance, self-insuring may be the better financial choice. Before enrolling, use the exact device-specific quote and calculate the premium plus the fee you would pay when something goes wrong.
