There is no public confirmation that NVIDIA has cut GeForce RTX 50 production to free memory for AI chips. A January–February 2026 report, summarized by TechRadar, said NVIDIA planned to reduce output amid a memory shortage, but gave no percentage or duration. NVIDIA said it continued shipping every GeForce SKU and was working with suppliers to maximize memory availability. That statement does not reveal production volumes, so the rumor remains unresolved.
What is the RTX 50 production-cut claim?
TechRadar’s February 6, 2026 report summarized The Information as saying that two sources with direct knowledge expected NVIDIA not to release new GeForce gaming GPUs that year because of a RAM shortage, and that the company was “slashing production” of current RTX 5000 GPUs. The summary did not specify how large any cut might be or how long it would last. Read TechRadar’s report.

The claim is a report about production plans, not an announced NVIDIA decision. The public material cited here does not provide a GeForce production-volume series that would confirm or quantify a cut.
Did NVIDIA confirm the cut?
No. NVIDIA’s statement, quoted by Tom’s Hardware on January 16, 2026, was: “Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs is strong, and memory supply is constrained. We continue to ship all GeForce SKUs and are working closely with our suppliers to maximize memory availability.” Read Tom’s Hardware’s report.

- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
Shipping all product models does not prove that NVIDIA is making the same number of each model as before; equally, a statement that memory is constrained does not prove that GeForce production was cut specifically to redirect memory to AI products. The statement establishes NVIDIA’s public position on shipments and supply, not its production quantities.
What NVIDIA’s official supply disclosure does—and does not—show
NVIDIA’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 26, 2026 says the complexity and scale of data-center system production has caused, and could cause, production delays and supply-and-demand challenges. It reports supply and capacity commitments of $279 billion as of July 26, 2026, up from $119 billion in the prior quarter, primarily for data-center infrastructure systems, memory, and manufacturing facilities. See NVIDIA’s SEC filings.

- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Powered by GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
- Integrated with 16GB GDDR7 256bit memory interface
- PCIe 5.0
- WINDFORCE cooling system
This is evidence of substantial company-wide data-center supply commitments and production demands. The filing does not say RTX 50 output was reduced, identify GeForce as a source of memory for AI products, or confirm the reported production decision.

Why might a GPU maker favor some products when memory is scarce?
Memory is a finite input, and different graphics cards use different quantities of it. If supply is constrained, a manufacturer could consider how much revenue each product generates relative to its memory use. That is a possible allocation calculation, not proof that NVIDIA made it or applied it to RTX 50 cards.

At CES, Gigabyte CEO Eddie Lin described this kind of potential approach to Tom’s Hardware. He said a manufacturer might focus on selected product tiers where revenue contribution per gigabyte of memory is higher, while reducing the share of other tiers. Lin was discussing a possible strategy, not confirming NVIDIA’s internal policy. Tom’s Hardware also presented illustrative revenue-per-memory calculations based on MSRP and card memory capacity; those calculations are not NVIDIA margin data or verified allocation rules. No. NVIDIA reported $16.0 billion in full-year Gaming revenue, up 41% year over year, and $193.7 billion in Data Center revenue, up 68%, for fiscal 2026. See NVIDIA’s fiscal 2026 results. The figures show the relative scale and growth of the reported segments; they do not identify a production transfer, quantify GeForce cuts, or establish why a particular card might be scarce.

Which RTX 50 cards are affected, and will they be harder to find?
The cited reporting discusses the RTX 50 family, including the RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti in 8GB and 16GB versions, RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090. It does not establish a confirmed cut for any one model or memory configuration. Inventory observations in the January and February 2026 reporting are time-bound, not a live measure of current stock.
