Apple has announced plans to begin making Mac mini computers at a new factory in Houston, Texas, later in 2026. Apple calls it the product’s first U.S. production, but has not disclosed how much output Houston will handle or confirmed that manufacturing has started.
What Apple announced
On February 24, 2026, Apple said it would expand its Houston, Texas, factory operations with a new factory for Mac mini production, planned to begin later in the year. The company described the move as the first time Mac mini would be produced in the United States. Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing, and we’re proud to significantly expand our footprint in Houston with the production of Mac mini starting later this year.” Apple’s February announcement also covered expanded advanced AI server manufacturing at the Houston site.

Has Mac mini production started in Houston?
It is not confirmed by the available Apple announcements. On August 13, 2026, Apple opened a 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston and said Mac mini manufacturing would begin there later in 2026. Cook also described the Mac mini production start as a future event at the opening. Apple’s August update says the center is within the same Houston facility that builds and ships advanced AI servers.

Apple’s September announcement that new Mac mini models were available to customers confirms product availability, not where those computers were made. It does not establish that the Houston line had begun production. The product announcement does not identify the manufacturing location.

How much production is moving to Texas?
Apple has not stated a production target, the share of Mac mini output assigned to Houston, or the locations from which output might shift. Its announcement supports saying that Apple plans to add U.S. production; it does not establish a specific reduction at any other factory or a country-by-country transfer. Reports describing a shift from Asia go beyond what Apple specified in its announcement.
How this fits Apple’s U.S. manufacturing push
Apple presented the Houston factory as part of a broader U.S. supply-chain effort. In its February 2026 announcement, the company said it had sourced more than 20 billion U.S.-made chips from 24 factories across 12 states. It also cited GlobalWafers’ new $4 billion bare-silicon-wafer facility in Sherman, Texas. These are Apple-reported supply-chain milestones, not measures of Mac mini’s U.S. content or Houston production volume.

Apple described its broader U.S. commitment as $600 billion. That is a company-stated commitment, not a reported factory output figure. None of these figures establishes how much of a Mac mini is made in the United States.
