Microsoft Cashback is an official, free Microsoft program—not a fee-based offer that requires a credit card. But cashback is not guaranteed: you must meet eligibility rules, activate an offer, complete a qualifying purchase with tracking intact, and wait for Microsoft to confirm it. Microsoft says completed rewards can be transferred to a linked PayPal account.
What Microsoft Cashback is—and what “legit” means here
Microsoft identifies Cashback as one of its services in the Microsoft Services Agreement. Its Cashback FAQ calls it a “real, free Microsoft program—no fees and no credit card required.” Microsoft also says it may receive compensation when users click offer links or make purchases through them, and that this does not affect result ranking or relevance.
That establishes that the program itself is genuine and that Microsoft says participation is free. It does not mean every purchase will earn a reward: each retailer offer has its own terms, and the purchase must be attributed and confirmed.

- An active personal Microsoft account; work or school accounts do not qualify.
- Continuous enrollment in Microsoft Rewards.
- To be at least 18 years old.
- Lawful residence in a participating territory.
Microsoft lists 36 eligible territories on its FAQ page. Because availability and program terms can change, check that page while signed in before relying on eligibility.
How to earn cashback without disrupting tracking
- Sign in with the personal Microsoft account enrolled in Microsoft Rewards.
- Find the retailer’s offer and activate it before shopping.
- Continue to the retailer and complete checkout in the same browsing session. Microsoft advises staying on the retailer’s site through checkout.
- Follow the offer’s terms, including any exclusions for products, order types, or other conditions.
Microsoft says attribution can be disrupted by clicking another offer link, using certain coupon codes or browser extensions, blocking third-party cookies, or using an ad blocker. An offer appearing in your account is not, by itself, a promise of payment: the offer must be activated, the transaction must qualify, and tracking must work.

When rewards become available and how to withdraw them
Microsoft says a reward first appears as pending while it confirms the purchase and checks that it has not been returned. The usual wait it states is 30 to 90 days; some purchases, including travel, can take longer. Once a balance is complete, Microsoft says you can transfer the entire completed balance to a linked PayPal account, subject to PayPal’s policies.
Cashback limits and changing terms
The Microsoft FAQ states a maximum of US$200 per calendar month and US$1,000 per year. It also says users can ask support to review a higher limit. These are the limits shown on Microsoft’s FAQ page and may change; check the current terms before making a purchase based on an expected reward.

How to avoid a fake Cashback offer
Microsoft says it will never ask you to pay to access cashback and identifies [email protected] as its official email sender. Open Cashback through Microsoft’s website or a Microsoft product, and do not pay anyone who claims a fee is needed to release your reward. If an email or message seems suspicious, verify the offer by signing in to Microsoft directly rather than following the message’s link.
