Yes, according to published estimates—but not according to an audited disclosure. BBC Sport reported on 8 October 2025 that Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index estimated Cristiano Ronaldo’s net worth at $1.4 billion. Forbes later put it at $1.2 billion. A separate 2025 Sofascore list ranks 10 active footballers by estimated wealth, but those figures are not a verified, shared-method league table.
Is Cristiano Ronaldo a billionaire?
Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index estimated Ronaldo’s net worth at $1.4 billion in 2025, an estimate reported by BBC Sport on 8 October 2025. Bloomberg’s calculation was described as drawing on career earnings, investments and endorsements. BBC Sport’s report also cited more than $550 million in salary earned between 2002 and 2023 and almost $18 million a year on a decade-long Nike deal.
Forbes published a different estimate: $1.2 billion in 2026. Its separate estimate of Ronaldo’s total career earnings was $2.1 billion—not his net worth. In a November 2025 interview reported by Forbes Australia, Ronaldo said, “It was my goal to reach that number.” The remark describes his personal goal; it does not independently verify either valuation. Forbes Australia reported that his representatives declined to comment on his wealth. Forbes Australia’s report gives its figures and context.
The estimates differ because they are publisher calculations, not public balance sheets. Net worth means assets minus liabilities, but the cited reports do not establish a common, independently audited method for valuing every asset and debt. Treat $1.4 billion and $1.2 billion as dated estimates from their respective publishers, not exact amounts confirmed by Ronaldo.

10 richest active footballers, according to Sofascore’s 2025 ranking
Sofascore’s ranking, published on 23 October 2025, placed Ronaldo first at €1.29 billion and Lionel Messi second at €598 million. It is one outlet’s compilation of estimated net worth, and Sofascore itself notes that estimates vary by source and method. The list should not be read as an audited comparison on a uniform basis.
| Rank | Footballer | Estimated net worth |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cristiano Ronaldo | €1.29 billion |
| 2 | Lionel Messi | €598 million |
| 3 | Neymar | €250 million |
| 4 | David Beckham | €230 million |
| 5 | Dave Whelan | €210 million |
| 6 | Cristiano Ronaldo (Brazilian footballer) | €160 million |
| 7 | Wayne Rooney | €160 million |
| 8 | Zlatan Ibrahimović | €150 million |
| 9 | Kylian Mbappé | €120 million |
| 10 | Karim Benzema | €110 million |
These are the euro-denominated estimates and order given in Sofascore’s 2025 list. The ranking includes Dave Whelan, a former player and football club owner, so “active footballers” does not mean a list limited to currently playing professionals. A figure’s placement here reflects this source’s estimate and scope, not a definitive global ranking.

Net worth is not the same as being the highest-paid
Net worth is an estimate of accumulated assets after liabilities. Earnings measure income over a stated period. Salary, endorsement income, investment value and taxes each affect wealth differently; a season’s earnings cannot simply be substituted for a net-worth estimate.
Forbes’ 2025 ranking estimated Ronaldo’s earnings for the 2025–26 season at $280 million: $230 million on-field and $50 million off-field. Forbes estimated that the 10 highest-paid footballers would earn a combined $945 million that season. These are projected seasonal earnings, not net worth or career totals. Why football wealth rankings do not always match
A ranking can change depending on what it counts and whom it includes. Some lists estimate individual players’ accumulated wealth; others rank annual income or include football business owners and stakeholders. FourFourTwo’s 2026 list, for example, covers wealthy people with at least a 25% stake in a club or another active football role. That is a broader category than footballers ranked by personal net worth, so it is not a like-for-like alternative to Sofascore’s list. FourFourTwo’s 2026 football wealth list describes its scope.

- Check the measure: Is the figure net worth, career earnings or income for a particular season?
- Check the date: Estimates can differ as earnings, investments and valuations change.
- Check who qualifies: A list of players is not equivalent to one that includes club owners or other football stakeholders.
- Check the method: A published estimate is not an audited personal balance sheet, and different outlets may value assets and liabilities differently.
