Blake Brown is a fragrance-forward haircare line built around alternating nourishing and strengthening shampoo-and-mask routines. Its masks are designed to replace conditioner, and the range also includes styling products, mists, and sets. Independent editorial testing offers a few specific impressions, not proof that the products work the same way for every hair type. The strongest practical caveat is scent: Allure reviewers described it as powerful, and one fragrance-sensitive tester found it overwhelming.
What is Blake Brown, and how does its routine work?
Blake Brown is a haircare brand founded by Blake Lively and developed with Give Back Beauty. The brand’s routine centers on switching between nourishing and strengthening shampoo-and-mask pairs. The masks are intended to stand in for conditioner rather than be used in addition to it.
Blake Brown says its products were seven years in development. Its July 2024 launch announcement introduced an original eight-product assortment and described the system as alternating nourishing and strengthening products. Those are brand statements about the line’s development and design, not independent evidence of results.
Nourishing and strengthening wash pairs
The Fundamental Nourishing Shampoo and Fundamental Nourishing Mask are positioned for the nourishing side of the routine; the Fundamental Strengthening Shampoo and Fundamental Strengthening Mask make up the strengthening side. The brand recommends alternating the two approaches, but the available independent coverage does not establish that this schedule is more effective than another routine.

Other products in the range
The current catalog extends beyond shampoo and masks. It lists a Rich Reset Pre-Shampoo Mask, styling products including Glam Mousse and Dry Shampoo, hair and body mists, and multi-product sets. The pre-shampoo mask has a different role from the post-shampoo masks: it is applied before washing.
What do reviewers say about how Blake Brown products feel?
Allure’s launch coverage reports individual editor experiences rather than a controlled comparison across hair types. One tester said hair felt silkier after using a strengthening mask. Another found that Rich Reset softened rough hair, but did not leave it as silky as Philip Kingsley Elasticizer. A fragrance-sensitive tester found Rich Reset less slippery and detangling than that comparator. These accounts suggest that softness, slip, and finish can vary; they do not establish a universal result.

- Delivers a daily dose of hydration to your hair
- Noticeably boosts body, makes hair manageable and leaves it looking smooth, less frizzy, shiny, and revitalized
- Deeply conditions, softens and nourishes
- Easily detangles and makes hair instantly combable
- Wild Nectar Santal fragrance hand selected for its complexity, layers, and distinctiveness
Allure’s 2026 review of the Fundamental Nourishing Mask describes using it after shampoo in place of conditioner: apply it from mid-lengths to ends, leave it on for the brand-recommended two to five minutes, then rinse. Allure editors reported their most consistent shiny results when using it weekly. That is the publication’s observation, not a promised outcome or a frequency proven best for everyone. Read Allure’s review of the Fundamental Nourishing Mask.
How strong is the fragrance?
Fragrance is a major part of Blake Brown’s product proposition and an important consideration for people who prefer lightly scented or fragrance-free haircare. Allure’s launch review described the scent as strong enough to fill a room, and one fragrance-sensitive tester found it overwhelming. That reaction is individual, but it is a meaningful caution if you are sensitive to scent or share close spaces with people who are.

What does Blake Brown mean by “clean” ingredients?
Blake Brown says its products are vegan and cruelty-free and are formulated without SLS/SLES, silicones, parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes, and mineral oil. These are claims made by the brand. “Clean” is not a universally defined standard: Allure notes that retailers use the term differently, and reports that a Blake Brown shampoo lists a sulfonate as its second ingredient. An expert cited by Allure says that ingredient has a sulfate-like cleansing role despite having a different chemical structure. If you avoid a particular ingredient or cleansing agent, check the exact product’s current ingredient list rather than relying on a broad “clean” label. See Allure’s launch coverage and expert commentary.

Who might want to try Blake Brown?
- Consider it if: you want a routine organized around alternating nourishing and strengthening washes, and you are open to using a hair mask instead of conditioner.
- Think twice if: strong fragrance is a concern, or you need a predictable level of slip or detangling. The available tester accounts are mixed and personal.
- Check first if: you avoid specific ingredients. Review the current ingredient list for the exact product rather than treating “clean” as a consistent or regulated guarantee.
Blake Brown’s central idea is clear, but its performance case is not settled by the limited editor observations available. The product range and routine may appeal to people who like scented, mask-centered haircare; the scent and variable reported feel are the clearest reasons to be cautious.
