No. Pepsi does not own Coke. The Coca-Cola brand belongs to The Coca-Cola Company, while Pepsi belongs to PepsiCo, Inc. They are separate publicly traded companies and competitors—not the same business.

Who owns Coke?

“Coke” usually means Coca-Cola, the beverage brand. The Coca-Cola Company owns and markets that brand, according to its 2025 Form 10-K.

The Coca-Cola Company is a public company whose shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange. It is owned by its shareholders and investors, rather than by one individual or by PepsiCo, as the company explains in its official ownership FAQ.

Who owns Pepsi?

Pepsi is a brand owned by PepsiCo, Inc., a separate publicly traded company with its own shareholders. PepsiCo’s official FAQ identifies PepsiCo as Pepsi’s owner. PepsiCo was formed in 1965 through the merger of Pepsi-Cola Company and Frito-Lay.

How the brands and companies differ

Brand Parent company Ownership form
Coca-Cola (Coke) The Coca-Cola Company Public company owned by shareholders
Pepsi PepsiCo, Inc. Public company owned by shareholders

In everyday conversation, people use “Coke” and “Pepsi” to mean either the drinks or the companies behind them. Keeping the brand and parent-company names distinct clears up the confusion: The Coca-Cola Company owns Coke; PepsiCo owns Pepsi.

Does the company on a bottle or can determine who owns the brand?

No. A beverage may be made, distributed, or sold by a bottler, distributor, wholesaler, or retailer. Those roles do not, by themselves, make that business the brand owner. The Coca-Cola Company’s 2025 Form 10-K describes its use of independent bottling partners and other distribution businesses, as well as its own bottling and distribution operations, while separately identifying Coca-Cola as a brand it owns and markets. A bottler’s involvement does not mean PepsiCo owns Coca-Cola or that the two parent companies have merged.
