What MGM said about Bruno Mars’s alleged debt
In a statement to FOX5 Las Vegas on March 18, 2024, MGM Resorts International said: “He has no debt with MGM.” The company also said speculation to the contrary was false. FOX5 Las Vegas reported MGM’s denial.

The scope matters: MGM addressed whether Mars owed money to MGM. Its statement does not establish his financial position with every possible creditor.
Where the $50 million and $60 million figures came from
The claim of gambling debt “as high as $50 million” was attributed to an unidentified source in March 2024 reporting. The Spokesman-Review’s republication of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporting characterized the figures as unconfirmed. They were allegations, not a disclosed or independently established balance.

The $60 million number was reported as a claimed annual after-tax amount. The same rumor reporting also attributed claims of $90 million a year and $1.5 million per performance to the unidentified source; those earnings figures were not verified disclosures. None of those amounts proves a debt balance. Complex’s March 2024 coverage also described the rumor and MGM’s response.
What Mars’s later comments do—and do not—show
In July 2025, Mars joked in a social post, “Almost out of debt,” and later quipped about the “lore” that he was a Las Vegas lounge singer in debt to the mob. The Daily Beast reported both remarks in its account of his appearance with Rosé at a BLACKPINK concert. The remarks were humorous, not a financial disclosure, and do not confirm that he owed money or reveal a balance. The Daily Beast’s July 15, 2025 report provides the context.

Why older gambling stories do not verify the rumor
Reporting in 2024 recalled Mars’s account of early gambling experiences, including losing $100 during a casino visit at age 19, as discussed in a 2013 GQ interview. That anecdote is about an early experience, not evidence of a later MGM debt. Complex’s coverage recounts the earlier context.
