A falling IREDA share price is not, by itself, a reason to buy, hold or sell. The decision should turn on whether your investment thesis still holds, what the latest filings show about loan quality and funding, how much risk the position adds to your portfolio, and whether the valuation makes sense for your assumptions. Market snapshots dated 6 October 2026 put IREDA at about ₹109, but they do not establish why the share fell or whether it is undervalued.
What the dated share-price snapshot shows—and what it does not
Downstox reported an NSE close of about ₹109 on 6 October 2026. Upstox’s snapshot for that date showed a 27.89% decline over one year and a 52-week range of ₹107.40 to ₹158.70. These are dated secondary-market data points, not a live quote or an estimate of fair value. Check a current exchange quote before acting.

The figures establish that the share had fallen over the reported period; they do not explain the fall. A move down from a past high does not prove that a share is cheap, and a lower price does not guarantee a recovery. The available dated sources do not establish one definitive cause for IREDA’s multi-period decline.
Why might IREDA shares be falling?
It is possible to identify factors investors should investigate without claiming that any one of them caused the observed decline. A lender’s share price can fall even while earnings rise if market expectations or valuation multiples change. Investors may also reassess credit risk, provisions, funding costs, margins, capital requirements or the effect of new share issuance on per-share economics.

Those are hypotheses to test against dated company filings and market data, not established explanations for this particular price move. IREDA’s official results archive and its filings with the NSE are the primary places to check company results and disclosures. A filing about a business event and a price chart showing a decline are separate pieces of evidence; neither alone proves causation.
What recent results say—and what they leave unanswered
Downstox’s summary of IREDA’s Q1 FY27 results reported revenue of about ₹2,236 crore, up 16.2% year on year, and net profit of about ₹339 crore, up 37.1% year on year. These are figures from a secondary market-data summary, not a substitute for the company’s filed financial statements. Check the official Q1 FY27 report for the exact figures and whether they are standalone or consolidated before relying on them.
Reported growth is a positive input, but it cannot settle the investment case on its own. For a renewable-energy financing NBFC, the quality and profitability of lending matter alongside the amount lent. A fuller assessment needs current evidence on asset quality, provisions and credit costs, net interest margin (NIM), funding mix and borrowing cost, capital adequacy, and any share issuance or other dilution. The cited summary does not supply enough verified current detail to answer those questions or determine whether IREDA is undervalued.
How to assess IREDA as a lender
IREDA finances the renewable-energy sector, so evaluate the loan book as well as headline earnings. Compare growth in lending with borrower repayment and the cost of funding that growth. The company’s official results archive covers FY 2025–26 and lists Q1 FY 2026–27 results and presentations; its exchange filings provide the underlying statements and disclosures.
Recommended Free Tools
- Asset quality: Check the latest gross and net non-performing asset ratios (GNPA and NNPA), movements in overdue or stressed loans, and disclosures about large borrower exposures.
- Credit costs and provisions: Read provisions alongside loan growth. Rising earnings do not show whether the lender has adequately recognized possible losses.
- Margins and funding: Track NIM or spreads, borrowing cost and funding mix over comparable reporting periods. Faster lending is less attractive if funding becomes materially more expensive or margins weaken.
- Capital and dilution: Review capital adequacy, capital needs and disclosures about equity issuance. Additional capital can support lending, while dilution can affect each existing share’s claim on future earnings.
A specific historical disclosure illustrates why borrower-level risks deserve attention without defining the whole portfolio. In financial statements filed with the NSE, IREDA reported that a ₹783.34 crore loan outstanding as of 30 June 2025 had been reclassified as NPA (Stage III). The filing described falsified borrower documents and IREDA’s finding of fraud. This is a particular historical credit event, not evidence that the entire loan book has the same risk or that it caused the share-price decline.
When holding may fit your plan
Holding is a choice to keep the exposure, not a judgment that the share must rebound. It may fit if your original investment thesis remains credible, the position is within your risk limit, and you can tolerate further volatility over your investment horizon. Reassess the thesis using filed asset-quality, provision, margin and funding information rather than relying on the share chart alone.

- Ask whether the reason you bought still applies, and identify what evidence would show that it no longer does.
- Decide whether the position size remains appropriate given your portfolio, time horizon and need for access to the money.
- Check the latest reported lender metrics and compare them with prior periods before concluding that growth is translating into sustainable earnings.
When buying more may—or may not—make sense
Buying more increases both your exposure to IREDA and the share’s weight in your portfolio. Averaging down just because the quote is lower is not an investment thesis. A buy-more decision needs a forward-looking valuation case based on assumptions you can defend, not the distance from a previous high.
Before adding, estimate a reasonable valuation range using current filed information and your view of sustainable earnings and book value. Then test how that view changes if lending grows more slowly, provisions rise, funding costs increase or new equity dilutes existing shareholders. Set a maximum position size and loss tolerance in advance. The dated price and secondary summary of Q1 FY27 profit growth do not, by themselves, establish that IREDA is undervalued.
When reducing or exiting may be the better choice
Reducing or selling can be rational if the original thesis has broken, the position creates more concentration or downside risk than you accept, current asset-quality or funding trends fall outside your limits, or you have a better risk-adjusted use for the capital. A decision to exit should be based on your plan and evidence about the business, not solely on the fact that the price has fallen.
The historical Stage III exposure described above is a reason to examine portfolio quality and disclosures carefully, not an automatic sell signal. Consider whether new filings show an isolated event or a pattern that changes your assessment; do not infer the answer from one borrower case alone.
A practical decision sequence
- Set the decision date and price. Use a current exchange quote. Treat ₹109, the 27.89% one-year decline and the ₹107.40–₹158.70 52-week range as Upstox and Downstox snapshots dated 6 October 2026, not current live figures.
- Read the latest official filing. Confirm the reporting basis and figures, then review asset quality, provisions, margins, borrowing costs, capital and dilution disclosures.
- Write down your thesis and its failure conditions. Be specific about what you expect the business to deliver and which results or developments would change your mind.
- Check portfolio fit. Consider your time horizon, liquidity needs, concentration and ability to withstand a further decline.
- Choose the action that follows from the evidence. Hold if the thesis and position still fit; add only if your valuation case and risk limit support it; reduce or exit if the thesis is broken or the exposure no longer suits your plan.
How to compare IREDA with other investments
If you are weighing IREDA against another lender or a renewable-energy company, compare like with like: use the same valuation date and comparable reporting periods. A lender and a project developer have different business risks, so their headline growth rates alone are not enough to rank them.
- Compare price-to-book and earnings multiples using consistent dates and accounting bases.
- Compare loan-book growth with GNPA, NNPA and credit costs.
- Review NIM or spreads, cost of funds, capital adequacy and potential dilution.
- Consider funding access and each investment’s role in your portfolio, including whether it is a lender or a project developer.
