IPIC said it planned to permanently close its Redmond Town Center theater in Redmond, Washington, on April 28, 2026, according to a WARN notice reported by GeekWire. The notice affected 64 employees. The planned closure came as IPIC Theaters, LLC, pursued Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and a sale process.

What is happening to the Redmond IPIC?

The theater is at Redmond Town Center in Redmond, east of Seattle—not within Seattle city limits. GeekWire reported on March 3, 2026, that IPIC had notified state officials on February 23 that operations at the site would cease “due to business circumstances,” with April 28 given as the planned permanent-closure date. The report attributed the 64 affected employees to the WARN notice filed with state regulators. GeekWire’s report

The reported date is a planned closure date, not confirmation that the theater actually stopped operating on April 28. The available information establishes the announced plan and notice, but not the venue’s verified operating status after that date.

How does the closure fit into IPIC’s bankruptcy?

IPIC Theaters, LLC, filed for Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida on February 25, 2026; the case page identifies it as case 26-12313. Chapter 11 is a court-supervised process in which a debtor can seek to reorganize or sell assets while addressing obligations. The filing date and case details are listed on the bankruptcy case page.

In an April 21 motion seeking an expedited sale process, the debtor said it was operating at a cash-flow deficit and did not have enough cash to maintain all existing theater operations much longer. It argued that a quick sale of substantially all its assets was needed to preserve the business’s going-concern value and keep theaters operating. Those are the debtor’s statements in a court filing, not independent findings by the court. The case docket and filings

IPIC’s initial bankruptcy filing described 13 leased theater premises, most in mixed-use retail, entertainment, and lifestyle developments. That filing-time description does not establish what happened to each location later. A sale process can affect a business’s future, but the Redmond announcement alone does not show whether a buyer would acquire or continue operating that theater.

What does the WARN notice mean for workers?

Washington’s Employment Security Department says the state’s Mass Layoffs and Business Closings law can apply when a closure affects 50 or more full-time employees at one worksite. For covered employers, the state says written notice must be provided 60 days before a layoff or closure to the agency, affected employees, and the local chief elected official. Washington Employment Security Department WARN guidance

That general threshold is relevant to the reported 64 affected employees, but the state guidance alone does not determine any individual worker’s rights or establish every detail of IPIC’s notice. GeekWire reported the employee count and notice details based on the filing. In its April 21 motion, IPIC separately said it had issued WARN notices providing 60 or 90 days’ advance notice and identified April 28 as the separation date under notices with a 60-day period.
