Apple’s March 2026 announcement advertised up to $100 in Apple credit for an iPhone 11 and up to $400 in carrier credit toward an iPhone 17e. The carrier figure should not be treated as the phone’s normal cash value.

First, make sure you have an iPhone 11
The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max are different models with different trade-in values. This article covers the standard iPhone 11, which was sold with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB capacities.
Check Settings > General > About for the model name and capacity. You should also note whether the phone is unlocked, fully paid off, and free of Activation Lock. Menu labels can vary slightly by iOS version.
Apple Trade In: convenient, but not ordinary cash
Apple’s direct trade-in route is usually best for someone already purchasing another Apple device and who values a simple process over the highest possible return.

Apple advertised up to $100 in Apple Trade In credit for the standard iPhone 11 in its March 2026 announcement. The exact quote depends on the model and the condition you report. Apple says the final value can change if the phone’s actual condition differs from the description. Its trade-in terms also address requirements such as removing Find My and Activation Lock and sending the device within the applicable deadline, including a 14-day requirement for relevant mail-in transactions.
Carrier promotions can advertise more—but the credit has strings attached
A carrier promotion may produce the largest headline number. Apple’s March 2026 announcement listed up to $400 in carrier credit for an iPhone 11 toward an iPhone 17e. That is an upgrade incentive, not a guaranteed one-time payment for your phone.
Carrier credits are commonly spread across 24 or 36 monthly installments. Eligibility may depend on:
- your carrier and plan;
- whether you are upgrading or adding a line;
- the new phone and financing arrangement;
- the iPhone 11’s condition and activation-lock status; and
- remaining with the carrier for the full promotional period.
If you leave the carrier, change to an ineligible plan, or otherwise break the promotion’s terms, future credits may stop. Verizon explains that promotional values can vary by plan and may be paid as monthly bill credits in its device-deals FAQ.

Compare the promotion using this calculation:
Total promotional credits − additional plan cost − activation, upgrade, and other required fees = real benefit.
A $400 promotion may be worthwhile if you already have the qualifying plan and intend to stay. It may be a poor deal if obtaining it requires a substantially more expensive plan.
Best Buy and other retailer trade-ins
Best Buy can make sense when you are already buying a replacement device there or want retailer credit. Its offer depends on the phone’s age, condition, accessories, and current resale prices. Best Buy requires Apple devices to have Find My disabled and to be removed from the iCloud account. Its trade-in FAQ explains the inspection and eligibility requirements.
The accessible offer information does not establish a single iPhone 11 quote for every configuration. Enter your exact model and condition, then compare the resulting retailer credit with Apple, carrier, and private-sale options.

Could selling privately bring in more?
Usually, a private sale has greater upside than an instant trade-in, but the relevant number is your net proceeds, not the seller’s asking price.
Swappa’s July 31, 2026 snapshot showed an iPhone 11 marketplace listing average of about $165 in one displayed configuration. The same page showed selected trade-in examples of approximately $46 for a 64GB T-Mobile model and $89 for a 256GB Verizon model. These are marketplace snapshots, not guaranteed sale prices. Separate these terms:
- Listing price: what a seller asks.
- Sale price: what a buyer actually pays.
- Trade-in price: what a service offers for convenience.
- Net proceeds: the sale price minus platform fees, shipping, insurance, taxes, and expected costs from returns or disputes.
Private resale is most attractive when the phone is unlocked, undamaged, fully functional, and has higher storage. It also requires photographs, messages, payment handling, packing, and possibly shipping. Risks include fake payment confirmations, chargebacks, buyer disputes, shipping loss, and returns. Never hand over the phone based only on a screenshot or email claiming payment.

Before accepting a quote, inspect the phone honestly. These issues can reduce the offer or make it ineligible for a promotional tier:

- cracked screen or back glass;
- dead pixels, touch-screen problems, or display defects;
- Face ID failure;
- camera, flash, speaker, microphone, button, or charging-port problems;
- liquid or water damage;
- a swollen or unsafe battery;
- poor battery health or a service warning;
- carrier lock;
- unpaid financing or another financial interest attached to the device; and
- Find My iPhone or Activation Lock still enabled.
Check Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging for Maximum Capacity and service warnings. Battery health can affect resale appeal, although the exact deduction varies by buyer and is not published as a universal adjustment table.
An unlocked phone generally has a wider audience. A carrier-locked phone can still have value, but it may receive fewer offers. If the phone is still being financed, confirm that the installment balance is paid and that no carrier or third-party interest remains. Apple’s terms require trade-in devices to be free of leases, contractual commitments, and third-party interests.
How to prepare your iPhone 11 safely
- Back up the phone. Use iCloud or a computer backup.
- Transfer your data to the replacement iPhone and verify that important photos, messages, authenticator apps, and accounts are available.
- Sign out of your Apple Account if prompted during the erase process.
- Disable Find My iPhone. This removes Activation Lock.
- Erase the phone. The usual path is Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings. Confirm the exact wording on your installed iOS version.
- Remove the physical SIM if the buyer or carrier requires it.
- Photograph the phone’s condition and record its serial number privately before shipping.
- Keep the receipt and tracking number until the transaction is complete.
Do not ship a phone with a swollen, damaged, or unsafe battery. If it has no meaningful trade-in value, Apple offers recycling through its Trade In and recycling program. Do not give a buyer your passcode or publish the full IMEI or serial number in a public listing.

- Use the live quote rather than an old estimate or headline maximum.

- Read the carrier’s plan, financing, service-term, and early-departure conditions.
- Calculate net proceeds after fees and shipping for a private sale.
- Erase the phone only after your backup and data transfer are complete.
- Keep proof of the phone’s condition and shipment.
