PTC and RXO surged on proposed acquisition announcements; Vaxcyte rose after reporting Phase 3 trial results; Cerebras gained amid AI-partnership commentary; Western Digital rebounded after a sharp prior-session drop; and Intel fell amid reporting about a chip venture. XP Inc. also gained, though the available report did not establish why.
How the broader market performed on October 5
The Associated Press reported that the S&P 500 rose 0.7%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 90 points, or 0.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.1% to a record. The S&P 500 finished within 0.3% of its summer record. These figures describe that session, not current market levels or a forecast. Associated Press market report.
Why PTC and RXO shares jumped
Both stocks rose on proposed acquisitions. The announced terms are not completed outcomes, and the share-price moves reflect the October 5 session.
| Company | October 5 move | Reported deal terms and status |
|---|---|---|
| PTC (PTC) | Up 33.5%, according to the Associated Press | Schneider Electric proposed an all-cash offer of $205 per share, valuing PTC at about $22.6 billion. The proposal was reported by the Associated Press and the Dow Jones-sourced roundup. |
| RXO (RXO) | Up 22.5%, according to the Associated Press | C.H. Robinson planned to acquire RXO. The Associated Press reported that RXO investors could receive $30.25 in cash per share; the Dow Jones-sourced roundup described the consideration as cash and stock and said the deal was expected to close in the first half of 2027. Those are reported proposed terms and expected timing, not a completed transaction. |
The two reported figures for RXO describe the consideration differently, so they should not be collapsed into a definitive account of the deal structure. The reporting establishes a proposed acquisition and a reported $30.25 cash-per-share amount, while the roundup characterizes the transaction as cash and stock. What drove the other named stock moves
Vaxcyte (PCVX): company-reported Phase 3 results
Benzinga’s October 5 market-movers report said Vaxcyte announced that VAX-31 met all prespecified primary endpoints across the age groups studied in the pivotal adult Phase 3 OPUS-1 trial, after which the shares jumped. This is a summary of the company’s reported topline result, not independent verification of the trial data. The report does not establish regulatory approval or commercial success. Benzinga’s movers report.
Cerebras (CBRS): AI partnership commentary
The Dow Jones-sourced roundup linked Cerebras’s rise to public commentary by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman describing Cerebras as a close partner. The retrieved report passage does not include the original post, so this is attributed reporting rather than a verified direct quotation. Cerebras’s investor-relations site separately lists second-quarter 2026 results and August 2026 news about CS-4 and an inference partnership; those company updates provide context but do not independently establish the day’s share-price catalyst. Western Digital (WDC): a rebound after a sell-off
Benzinga reported that Western Digital shares rose on October 5 after falling 10.22% in the previous session. That describes a short-term trading rebound; it does not, by itself, demonstrate a change in the company’s outlook. Western Digital’s investor-relations site lists fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter results and September updates on data-storage infrastructure, but those items are not established as the reason for the October 5 move. Benzinga’s movers report; Western Digital investor relations.
Intel (INTC): attributed Terafab reports
The Dow Jones-sourced roundup attributed Intel’s decline to reports of discussions between TSMC and Elon Musk’s Terafab chip venture, while also describing Intel as a Terafab partner. That reported context was not independently confirmed by a primary source in the available reporting, so it should be treated as an attributed explanation rather than an established company announcement. Intel’s investor-relations page showed second-quarter 2026 as its latest reported results and scheduled its third-quarter 2026 earnings call for October 29, 2026; the calendar entry is not itself evidence of the stock’s catalyst. XP Inc. (XP): the report does not establish a catalyst
Benzinga recorded a gain for XP Inc. in its October 5 movers report, but the returned report passage did not provide a verified company-specific reason. Without a substantiated catalyst, the move should not be assigned to a particular company event. Benzinga’s movers report.

The stocks did not share one common catalyst. The deal announcements for PTC and RXO concerned proposed transaction terms; Vaxcyte’s move followed reported clinical-trial topline information; Cerebras’s was connected in reporting to AI-partnership commentary; and Western Digital’s was characterized as a rebound after a previous-session loss. Intel’s reported explanation was tied to attributed news about Terafab, while XP’s specific catalyst was not established in the available passage.

These are event descriptions, not a comparable valuation analysis or a buy-or-sell ranking. A proposed deal may change if terms or conditions change, and a company-reported clinical result is not the same as regulatory approval. A one-session rebound or decline likewise does not, on its own, establish a lasting change in business prospects.
