Intel completed its repurchase of Apollo-managed funds’ 49% interest in the joint venture related to Fab 34 in Ireland on April 8, 2026. Intel’s Q2 2026 filing reports aggregate cash consideration of $14.2 billion, inclusive of transaction costs. The deal bought back a joint-venture stake—not 49% direct ownership of the factory.

What Intel bought back

The repurchased interest was Apollo-managed funds’ 49% equity stake in Ireland SCIP, the joint venture related to Intel’s Fab 34. Intel’s 2024 announcement said the company would retain full ownership and operational control of Fab 34 itself. The transaction therefore changed ownership of the related joint venture interest, not Intel’s stated control of the factory.

Intel and Apollo announced the repurchase agreement on April 1, 2026. Intel reported completion in an April 8 Form 8-K, and its Q2 2026 filing subsequently described the acquisition as complete.

How the deal compares with the 2024 investment

Deal stage Amount What it represents
2024 investment $11 billion Apollo-managed funds and affiliates’ investment for a 49% equity interest in the Fab 34-related joint venture.
2026 repurchase $14.2 billion Aggregate cash consideration paid by Intel to repurchase that 49% interest, inclusive of transaction costs, as reported in Intel’s Q2 2026 filing.

The headline amounts alone do not establish an investment return. They do not account for the agreements’ terms, cash flows over time, the time value of money, or transaction costs.

How Intel said it expected to fund the repurchase

When Intel announced the agreement on April 1, 2026, it said it expected to fund the purchase with cash on hand and proceeds from approximately $6.5 billion of new debt. That was the announced financing plan, not a statement that debt covered the full $14.2 billion price. The company’s completion and Q2 filing details cited above establish the transaction and aggregate consideration, but do not establish a final source-by-source funding breakdown.

What the buyback does—and does not—show

The company disclosures establish that Intel reacquired the joint venture stake. They do not establish realized post-close effects on Intel’s earnings, leverage, credit ratings, or production. Any claim about those outcomes would require separate evidence; the transaction terms alone do not show that they improved.
