CTP provided cloud consulting, design, and advisory services. HPE said the acquisition would expand its cloud services capabilities as part of its Hybrid IT and Pointnext strategy; the purchase price was not disclosed in contemporaneous coverage.
When did HPE acquire Cloud Technology Partners?
The announcement and the closing were separate events. HPE’s acquisition history dates the announcement to September 5, 2017, and classifies CTP as a “Cloud Consulting Practice” (HPE acquisition history). HPE’s fiscal 2017 Form 10-K says the company completed the acquisition on September 15, 2017 (HPE fiscal 2017 Form 10-K).
At announcement, TechCrunch and Light Reading reported that financial terms had not been disclosed. The 10-K establishes the later completion date; the deal is historical, not pending.
What did Cloud Technology Partners do?
HPE described CTP in its filing as “a cloud consulting, design and advisory services company.” Its work centered on helping enterprise customers plan and carry out cloud transformations, rather than selling a named hardware product.

- Renewed server with the highest quality standards
- Ideal for a robust enterprise environment or data center
- All servers include power cords, and other parts detailed in full product description below
- Custom configurations available upon request
HPE’s 2017 Pointnext presentation described CTP as serving enterprises moving to AWS, Google, Microsoft, OpenStack, and other leading cloud platforms. That range points to experience across different cloud environments; it does not establish that CTP was superior to other consultancies.
Why did HPE buy CTP?
HPE presented the acquisition as a way to broaden its cloud services and advisory capabilities. Its Pointnext strategy presentation stated that the company would “Expand cloud service offerings through acquisition of Cloud Technology Partners.” Pointnext was positioned to help Hybrid IT customers determine where workloads should run and how to meet business needs.

At the time, HPE Pointnext senior vice president and general manager Ana Pinczuk described the workload-placement rationale to Light Reading: “Achieving business outcomes requires putting each workload in the appropriate environment, whether it’s in an on-premises data center, in a private cloud, on public clouds or offered as a SaaS application.”
How large was CTP’s cloud experience?
Two contemporary figures describe CTP’s activity, but use different wording and should not be treated as the same metric:

- HPE’s 2017 investor presentation reported “450+ enterprise engagements across platforms.”
- Light Reading described CTP as having worked on “almost 500 enterprise cloud transformation projects.”
Both indicate substantial enterprise activity at the time, but “engagements” and “projects” are not interchangeable measures. Neither figure establishes the acquisition’s subsequent financial return.
How much did HPE pay?
The purchase price is not stated in the available HPE materials or contemporaneous announcement coverage. TechCrunch and Light Reading both reported that the financial terms were not disclosed. No specific acquisition value should be inferred from the engagement or project counts.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The record supports a clear account of HPE’s stated strategic rationale and the timing of the transaction: HPE sought to add cloud consulting and advisory expertise to its services business, then completed the deal ten days after announcing it. The cited materials do not report a quantified financial return or establish how CTP’s capabilities performed after the acquisition.
