Ingram Micro’s July 2025 outage was caused by ransomware found on certain internal systems, the company said. It took some systems offline while responding, disrupting its ability to process and ship orders. The company reported that order processing and shipping resumed on July 9, 2025, and later said the incident did not materially harm its business or financial condition.
What happened to Ingram Micro?
On July 5, 2025, Ingram Micro announced that it had “recently identified ransomware on certain of its internal systems.” The company said it took steps to secure its environment, including proactively taking certain systems offline. The disruption affected its ability to process and ship orders while it worked to restore the impacted systems.
Ingram Micro said it launched an investigation with third-party cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement. These are the company’s confirmed statements; they do not identify how the attackers first gained access or name a threat actor.
How the response and recovery unfolded
| Date | Company update | What it meant operationally |
|---|---|---|
| July 5, 2025 | Ingram Micro disclosed ransomware on certain internal systems and said it had taken some systems offline while investigating and securing its environment. | The company was working to restore systems needed to process and ship orders. |
| July 8, 2025 | The company said it believed unauthorized access connected with the incident was contained and affected systems remediated. | This was a containment and remediation update, not a report that all operations had returned. |
| July 9, 2025, 10:00 a.m. PT | Ingram Micro said teams could process and ship orders received through EDI, electronically, by phone, or by email across all business regions. | Orders could again be handled through those channels. |
| July 9, 2025, 9:50 p.m. PT | The company said it was operational across all countries and regions where it transacts business. | This was the company’s report of geographic restoration; it does not establish that every service or customer workflow was free of limitations. |
The dated updates are available on Ingram Micro’s incident response page. The company’s initial July 5 statement was also filed with the SEC.

Was ransomware the cause, and how did attackers get in?
Ransomware was the cause Ingram Micro itself identified. In the July 5 statement, the company said it had found ransomware on certain internal systems. It did not disclose an initial-access method or identify a group responsible. The official updates and later company filing cited here do not establish either detail. Treat claims about a particular VPN entry route or ransomware group as unconfirmed unless independently verified. A contemporaneous Reuters report carried by Investing.com likewise noted that the company had not disclosed those details at the time.
What did Ingram Micro later say about business impact?
In its March 3, 2026 Form 10-K, Ingram Micro said the July incident did not cause a material interruption of operations or otherwise materially adversely affect its business, financial condition, or reputation. That is the company’s assessment in its filing, not an independent finding. The filing also described costs associated with investigating the incident, remediating and restoring systems, and enhancing cybersecurity. See the Form 10-K filed with the SEC.

In January 2026, TechRadar Pro reported, citing breach notifications and a Maine Attorney General filing, that unauthorized third-party access involved certain files in internal repositories between July 2 and 3, 2025, and that 42,000 people were affected. That count and description are secondary reporting; the underlying filing and notifications are not cited here as directly reviewed primary records. They should therefore be treated as reported claims rather than as details established by Ingram Micro’s July outage updates or its Form 10-K.
