The company said shipments increased by 4.2 million units year over year, or 74.8%.
That was a genuine quarterly milestone, not proof of a permanent ranking. Omdia’s published full-year 2024 table placed Infinix 11th, with 41.6 million shipments and a 3% global share. The distinction matters because rankings change with the period, measurement firm, market definition and whether the figures cover one brand or the entire Transsion group.

What Infinix actually claimed
Infinix announced the milestone on December 20, 2023. Its statement said IDC data put Infinix among the world’s top 10 smartphone brands by global shipments in Q3 2023. The claim concerned smartphones, not all mobile phones, active users, revenue or profit.

The announcement attributed those figures to IDC’s tracker, but it did not publish Infinix’s exact position within the top 10, its total quarterly shipment volume or the complete IDC ranking. It therefore should not be rewritten as “No. 10” or as an IDC-confirmed permanent position.

What the 2024 annual data shows
A quarterly top-10 appearance can differ from a full-year ranking. Omdia’s published 2024 table lists the following smartphone shipments, market shares and annual changes:
| 2024 rank | Brand or OEM listed | Shipments | Share | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Apple | 225.9 million | 18% | -1.4% |
| 2 | Samsung | 222.9 million | 18% | -1.1% |
| 3 | Xiaomi | 168.6 million | 14% | 15.4% |
| 4 | vivo | 100.9 million | 8% | 13.9% |
| 5 | OPPO | 90.4 million | 7% | 7.3% |
| 6 | Honor | 64.0 million | 5% | 13.4% |
| 7 | Lenovo | 57.5 million | 5% | 24.3% |
| 8 | Realme | 48.2 million | 4% | 9.3% |
| 9 | Huawei | 48.4 million | 4% | 35.8% |
| 10 | Tecno | 44.2 million | 4% | 12.6% |
| 11 | Infinix | 41.6 million | 3% | 11.8% |
| 12 | itel | 20.5 million | 2% | 27.5% |
See Omdia’s published table. Omdia labels the rows as OEMs while listing Tecno, Infinix and itel separately. On that annual measure, Tecno was 10th and Infinix 11th.
Infinix is not the same as Transsion
Infinix is one consumer brand owned by Transsion Holdings. Transsion also operates Tecno and itel. A group-level ranking combines shipments from all three and cannot be credited to Infinix alone.
Omdia-reported figures put Transsion’s combined 2024 shipments at 106.7 million, up 15.3% from 2023. That number is useful for understanding the parent company’s scale, but it is not Infinix’s brand total. Read the Omdia-reported group figure.

Transsion’s corporate site says the group ranked sixth in the global smartphone market in 2025 with a 7.9% share, citing IDC. That is a group-level statement. IDC’s public material does not establish Infinix’s individual global rank for the latest 2026 quarter. Transsion’s corporate overview and IDC’s market-share page provide the relevant context.
Why Infinix grew quickly
No public causal study proves that one product feature created the Q3 2023 jump. The available evidence supports a combination of strategic factors:
Value-oriented hardware
Infinix competes with relatively aggressive displays, charging speeds, cameras, storage and gaming specifications at lower price points than many premium rivals. Those features can make a model attractive in price-sensitive markets, but shipment growth does not by itself prove customer satisfaction or profitability.
Youth and gaming positioning
The brand targets younger buyers with gaming phones, entertainment features, design-led devices and creator-oriented camera functions. This gives Infinix a distinct identity within Transsion’s portfolio.
Market segmentation and distribution
Transsion can position Infinix, Tecno and itel at different price and customer segments while sharing group infrastructure. Its emphasis on Africa and other emerging markets gives Infinix access to regions where replacement demand and first-time smartphone adoption can be significant.

Infinix’s Q2 2025 release, again citing IDC, reported that its global share rose from 2.8% in Q1 2025 to 3.2% in Q2. It also said shipments across Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam increased 27.8% quarter over quarter, the largest absolute quarterly increase among brands in Southeast Asia.
The same release said Infinix ranked among the top five brands in 15 markets worldwide. These are company-distributed, IDC-attributed figures; they show regional momentum but do not demonstrate a renewed global top-10 position. Read the Q2 2025 release.
Africa, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and Latin America remain important parts of the brand’s strategy. Results in any one region should not be substituted for a worldwide ranking.

Shipments are not the same as sales
Shipment trackers generally estimate units supplied into distribution channels. They are not necessarily phones purchased by consumers, activated devices, units still in inventory, revenue or profit. The Q3 2023 figure should therefore be described as 4.2 million additional shipped units, not 4.2 million additional consumer purchases.

Quarterly and annual rankings answer different questions
Launch timing, channel stocking, promotions and regional demand can lift a brand in one quarter. A full-year table averages those fluctuations. That is why a Q3 top-10 result and an 11th-place annual result can both be accurate.
Brand, OEM and group definitions matter
Before comparing rankings, check whether the source counts an individual brand, an OEM, a parent company or several affiliated brands together. Also check whether it measures smartphones only or all handsets, and whether the unit is shipment, sell-in, sell-through or active installed base.
What could determine Infinix’s next ranking
Infinix could return to or remain in the top 10 if it sustains strong sell-in across emerging markets, keeps hardware competitive and expands distribution without excessive inventory. That is a scenario, not a published forecast.
- Competition from Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, realme, Samsung’s Galaxy A range, HONOR and Transsion’s own Tecno can compress margins and shelf space.
- Inflation, currency movements, tariffs and weaker entry-level demand can reduce affordability.
- Memory and component costs can make low-price specifications harder to sustain.
- Quarterly channel loading can create a temporary shipment spike that does not persist into annual results.
For investors and buyers, the useful conclusion is not a single rank but a dated trend: rapid Q3 2023 growth, an 11th-place 2024 annual result, and continued regional expansion claims in 2025.
Bottom line
Infinix’s entry into the global smartphone shipment top 10 was a legitimate historical milestone reported by the company from IDC’s Q3 2023 tracking. It was a quarterly, brand-level shipment claim with no publicly disclosed exact rank. Omdia’s full-year 2024 data placed Infinix 11th, showing why the headline needs a date and why Infinix’s results must be separated from Transsion’s combined ranking.
