Tata Elxsi’s profit rose 10% year over year to 1.7 billion rupees ($17.84 million at the exchange rate cited in the October 13, 2026 report) for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. Revenue increased 15% to 10.56 billion rupees, with growth led by the company’s transportation engineering business and supported by media and communications deal ramp-ups.
What Tata Elxsi reported for Q2 FY27
| Measure | Q2 FY27 result | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|
| Quarterly profit | 1.7 billion rupees (about Rs. 170 crore) | 10% increase |
| Overall revenue | 10.56 billion rupees (about Rs. 1,056 crore) | 15% increase |
| Transportation revenue growth | Constant-currency basis | 9.4% increase |
| Media and communications revenue growth | Reported by segment | 10.9% increase |
The figures cover the three months ended September 30, 2026, Tata Elxsi’s second quarter of fiscal 2027. The profit increase was smaller than the revenue increase, indicating that earnings grew solidly but did not keep pace with the top line on a percentage basis.

Why profit increased
Transportation deal wins and aerospace demand
Transportation is Tata Elxsi’s largest business. It grew 9.4% year over year in constant-currency terms, helped by new deal wins and stronger activity in adjacent markets, particularly aerospace. Constant-currency growth removes the effect of exchange-rate movements, making it a better indicator of underlying segment momentum than a rupee figure alone.

A slower sequential growth rate does not mean the business contracted: transportation still expanded at a high-single-digit annual rate in Q2.

Media and communications ramp-ups
Media and communications revenue grew 10.9% year over year. Tata Elxsi attributed the performance to existing deals ramping up and additional wins. Growth in this segment helped broaden the quarter’s expansion beyond transportation.
Operational efficiencies offset salary revisions
Reuters reported that operational efficiencies improved core profit margins despite salary revisions across Tata Elxsi’s workforce during the quarter. Those efficiencies helped convert higher revenue into a 10% increase in profit while employee costs were rising.

How the quarter compares with the company’s broader base
Tata Elxsi reported Rs. 3,757.4 crore of operating revenue for fiscal 2026. In the fourth quarter of FY26, original-equipment manufacturers supplied 77% of transportation-business revenue. That customer mix makes transportation performance closely tied to the spending plans, product cycles and engineering requirements of vehicle manufacturers, even as Tata Elxsi pursues aerospace and other adjacent markets.

The Q2 results therefore show two simultaneous trends: transportation remains the main growth engine, but its annual growth rate was below Q1’s pace; and the company is using operational discipline to protect profitability while investing in employees and pursuing new work.

What could support further growth
- New contracts: Additional deal wins can provide work that moves from initial award to full delivery over several quarters.
- Aerospace adjacency: Stronger traction outside the traditional automotive pool could reduce reliance on vehicle programs.
- Software and electronics intensity: Tata Elxsi’s chairman, N. Ganapathy Subramaniam, said customer experience remains a priority as software, electronics and digital technologies become more deeply embedded in end-to-end products and services.
- Execution gains: Continued operational efficiencies could help absorb compensation increases and preserve margins.
Risks that remain after the quarter
Limited electric-vehicle adoption
The engineering research-and-development industry continues to face headwinds from limited electric-vehicle adoption. Slower EV uptake can delay or reduce some engineering programs, particularly those linked to new vehicle platforms, connected features and electrification.
Weak technology spending
A broader macroeconomic overhang has hurt technology spending. Customers may defer discretionary engineering projects, stretch procurement timelines or prioritize cost savings, which can slow the conversion of announced wins into revenue.

Transportation growth has cooled from Q1
The decline from 13.3% transportation growth in Q1 FY27 to 9.4% in Q2 is an important monitoring point. It still represents expansion, but investors will want to see whether the moderation is temporary or signals longer sales cycles and softer demand among major customers.

With 77% of transportation revenue coming from OEMs in Q4 FY26, changes in a small number of large customers’ production plans can have an outsized effect on the segment. Aerospace and other adjacent markets may diversify that exposure, but the reported figures do not establish how quickly that diversification will occur.

How to read the numbers
- Separate revenue from profit: Revenue rose 15%, while profit rose 10%; both increased, but the gap means profit growth lagged sales growth.
- Use the right currency basis: Transportation’s 9.4% figure is constant-currency, whereas the company’s total revenue and profit are stated in rupees. They are not interchangeable measures.
- Compare segments: Media and communications grew 10.9%, slightly faster than transportation’s 9.4% in Q2, although transportation remains the larger business.
- Track momentum, not one quarter alone: Transportation growth was 13.3% in Q1 FY27 and 9.4% in Q2, so the next results will help determine whether the slowdown persists.
The Bottom Line
Tata Elxsi delivered a stronger Q2 FY27, with profit up 10% and revenue up 15%, as transportation and media-and-communications wins translated into growth. Operational efficiencies supported margins, but slower transportation growth than in Q1, limited EV adoption and weak technology spending remain the key uncertainties.
