Index Ventures’ $2.3B Raise: 2024 Fund Split and 2026 Update

Index Ventures’ July 2024 raise comprised an $800 million venture fund and a $1.5 billion growth fund. In 2026, the firm raised more, bringing available capital to $3.5 billion, according to TechCrunch.

Index Ventures announced $2.3 billion in new funds on July 10, 2024: $800 million for its 12th venture fund and $1.5 billion for its 7th growth fund. That is a historical fundraising announcement, not the firm’s latest total: TechCrunch reported in July 2026 that Index raised another $2 billion across three funds, bringing available capital to $3.5 billion.

How the 2024 raise was split

Index Ventures’ July 10, 2024 announcement divided the $2.3 billion between two funds:

Fund Amount Fund number Focus stated in the announcement
Venture $800 million 12th Venture investing
Growth $1.5 billion 7th Growth investing

The amounts are the sizes Index announced for the respective funds; they do not establish how quickly the firm would invest, what any individual company might receive, or how the funds would perform. Index Ventures’ announcement did not disclose legal fund terms, limited-partner identities, or deployment schedules.

Why Index said it was raising

Index framed the fundraising as a way to back entrepreneurs across stages and geographies. Its July 2024 announcement pointed to three developments it believed were creating opportunities to start and scale companies:

  • Artificial intelligence and other technological change.
  • A larger pool of people with experience scaling startups.
  • Entrepreneurship becoming more global.

That is Index’s explanation for the opportunity, not an independent finding about the venture market. The firm described its own approach as long-term partnerships with founders and said its funds could support companies from idea to IPO. Index partner Shardul Shah offered a particularly expansive forecast in the contemporaneous press release: “AI alone will revolutionize virtually every sector of the economy and open up whole industries to venture that have remained virtually untouched.” That statement is Shah’s promotional outlook, not a settled prediction. How the separate Origin seed fund fits in

The $2.3 billion was not the whole amount Index described as available to invest at the time. The firm already had a separate $300 million Origin seed fund. Its contemporaneous press release said the new venture and growth funds together with Origin represented $2.6 billion in capital to deploy from seed to IPO. Origin was not part of the $2.3 billion split.

What Index reported about its portfolio

In its 2024 web announcement, Index said 108 of its backed startups had reached a $1 billion valuation, 23 had surpassed $10 billion, 57 had become publicly traded, and its portfolio had created 200,000 jobs. It projected 20,000 additional jobs in the following 12 months; that was a forecast made in 2024, not a reported completed outcome. These are figures attributed to Index, not independently verified measures of the newly announced funds’ results.

There is a one-company difference in the firm’s contemporaneous materials: the press release reported 109 portfolio companies reaching a $1 billion valuation, while the official web article reported 108. The materials do not explain the discrepancy, so the counts should remain attributed to their respective pages rather than combined.

Is $2.3 billion Index Ventures’ latest fundraising?

No. On July 31, 2026, TechCrunch reported that Index raised $2 billion across three funds: a $400 million seed-focused fund, a $900 million venture fund, and a $700 million addition to the $1.5 billion growth fund raised in 2024. TechCrunch said the fundraising brought Index’s total available capital to $3.5 billion. (TechCrunch’s July 2026 report)

Index separately described $3.5 billion in investing capital across seed, venture, and growth in a 2026 LinkedIn post, but did not give the detailed allocations there. The breakdown above is TechCrunch’s reporting; the company post corroborates the total, not the fund-by-fund amounts. (Index Ventures’ 2026 LinkedIn post)

What the headline amount does not tell you

A fundraising total alone does not reveal the funds’ terms, who invested as limited partners, the schedule for deploying the capital, or eventual returns. Index’s portfolio milestones are firm-reported historical figures; they do not establish performance for the funds announced in 2024.
