To find Houston jobs on Indeed, search a specific job title, skill, or employer; set the location to Houston or a preferred ZIP code; then narrow results by pay, distance, work arrangement, schedule, and qualifications. Indeed’s Houston page shows changing vacancies, not a fixed inventory. For local context, the Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands metro area had 3,471,300 nonfarm jobs in May 2025, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
How to search Indeed for jobs in Houston
Start at Indeed’s live Houston search. Enter a specific job title, skill phrase, or company in the job search field and enter Houston or a ZIP code in the location field. A focused query such as “accounts payable,” “HVAC technician,” or a named employer is usually easier to refine than a broad search for “jobs.”
- Set your location. Use Houston for a broad search or enter a preferred ZIP code to focus on a part of the metro area.
- Apply the filters that match your needs. Indeed offers controls for pay, remote work, distance, job type, experience level, education, licenses, certifications, shift and schedule, encouraged-to-apply criteria, and date posted. A resume-upload prompt is also available.
- Check the full posting. Confirm the worksite, pay basis, required qualifications, schedule, and application instructions in the listing itself.
- Verify the opening with the employer. Search the employer’s careers page to see whether the position is still listed and to confirm where applications should be submitted.
Listings, result counts, and individual postings change. A displayed count is not a stable measure of Houston-area openings, nor does it necessarily represent unique jobs or the size of the local labor market.
How to compare Houston job postings
Use the same criteria across listings so that an attractive headline does not distract from the details that affect your finances and day-to-day routine.
#1 Best Overall
- Pay: Note whether compensation is hourly, salaried, or a range. Compare like with like; a posted occupational average is not an individual offer.
- Commute: Use the distance filter as a starting point, then check the actual work location on each posting. A distance setting does not tell you how long a particular trip will take.
- Work arrangement: Check whether the role is remote, on-site, or otherwise described. Confirm any location or attendance requirements in the full listing.
- Job type and schedule: Compare full-time or part-time status with the listed shift and schedule.
- Qualifications: Review experience, education, license, and certification requirements before applying.
- Posting status: Consider the date posted, then check whether the employer still lists the vacancy on its own careers site.
These comparisons matter because pay varies substantially by occupation, while a job posting—not a metro-wide average—sets the terms and requirements of a specific opportunity.
What the 2025 Houston labor data says
The BLS reported 3,471,300 total nonfarm jobs in the Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands, Texas, metropolitan area in May 2025. Its release recorded a net increase of 29,600 jobs over the year and described employment as little changed. The figures are not seasonally adjusted, so the release compares May with the same month a year earlier. They describe the metropolitan area, not Houston city limits. Read the BLS May 2025 employment release.
In a separate release of May 2025 occupational estimates, published in 2026, the BLS reported a mean hourly wage of $32.51 for the Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands metro area, compared with $33.54 nationwide. The same estimates show how both employment mix and average pay differ by occupational group:
| Occupational group | Houston-area employment share | Houston-area mean hourly wage |
|---|---|---|
| Office and administrative support | 11.5% | Not stated for this group in the cited summary (BLS, 2026) |
| Transportation and material moving | 9.5% | Not stated for this group in the cited summary (BLS, 2026) |
| Food preparation and serving related | 9.4% | $14.70 |
| Building and grounds cleaning and maintenance | Not stated for this group in the cited summary (BLS, 2026) | $16.74 |
| Healthcare support | Not stated for this group in the cited summary (BLS, 2026) | $16.83 |
| Architecture and engineering | Not stated for this group in the cited summary (BLS, 2026) | $54.26 |
| Management | Not stated for this group in the cited summary (BLS, 2026) | $69.09 |
| Legal | Not stated for this group in the cited summary (BLS, 2026) | $69.70 |
The wage figures are occupational-group mean hourly wages, not starting-pay predictions or promises about a particular employer’s offer. The employment shares show the groups’ portions of area employment; they do not indicate how many openings are available now. See the BLS May 2025 occupational employment and wage estimates.
