The announcement’s opening-week estimates were not confirmed dates: later reporting says Kalamunda opened on 29 May 2025, and Il Locale’s current locations list includes both towns.
When did Il Locale announce the two new stores?
On 2 October 2024, PerthNow reported that Il Locale planned to add Busselton and Kalamunda to its Western Australian locations. The pizzeria began in Scarborough in 2021 and had already expanded to Subiaco and Currambine, according to the report. PerthNow’s announcement described the new venues as planned openings, not confirmed launch dates.

What the original timing meant
Founder Mat Bourget told PerthNow that Busselton was aiming for the first week of November 2024 and Kalamunda for the first week of December 2024. Exact dates had not been confirmed, so those were targets rather than guarantees.
Which store opened, and what is listed now?
A 5 June 2025 PerthNow report says the Kalamunda restaurant opened on 29 May 2025. Il Locale’s official locations page currently lists both Kalamunda and Busselton, alongside Scarborough, Subiaco and Currambine. The current listing establishes that the brand includes both locations, but does not itself state their opening dates. PerthNow’s Kalamunda opening report provides the later opening confirmation.

What did Il Locale say about the new locations?
Bourget told PerthNow he chose the towns after considering local pizza options and feeling that wood-fired pizza was lacking. That was the founder’s view, not an independent assessment of either town’s restaurant market. He also described the intended customer experience as “a welcoming atmosphere, freshly made pizzas with top quality ingredients, and the same great service we’ve built our reputation on.” This is the founder’s description, not an independent review.
