Fast Genetics acquired Acuity Ag Solutions, a swine genetics company based in Carlyle, Illinois, founded by The Maschhoffs. Acuity president Clint Schwab said the asset transaction took effect February 1, 2022, and covered all components of Acuity’s business.

What company was acquired?

The company was Acuity Ag Solutions, which The Maschhoffs formed in the mid-2000s to select pigs suited to their commercial production system. The genetics business later served customers outside that system. SDR Ventures’ February 3, 2022 announcement identified Acuity as based in Carlyle, Illinois, and described it as a subsidiary of Maschhoff Family Foods.

Who bought Acuity, and when did the deal take effect?

Fast Genetics, identified in the announcement as a subsidiary of STgenetics, acquired Acuity. Schwab said the transaction became effective February 1, 2022, and was structured as an asset transaction encompassing all components of Acuity’s business. SDR Ventures announced the deal publicly on February 3 and said it served as the exclusive sell-side advisor. SDR Ventures’ announcement and its deal profile report the transaction and advisory role.

Why did The Maschhoffs create Acuity?

The Maschhoffs initially developed Acuity to select pigs better matched to their own production system. The success of that selection program led to a genetics business that expanded beyond the parent company’s operations, according to the transaction announcement. The acquisition therefore involved a business whose origins were internal breeding and selection, but whose customer base had grown beyond The Maschhoffs.

What was expected to change for producers?

The companies presented the combination as a way to broaden available breeding stock and genetic lines, support additional genetic improvement through new breeding programs, and increase customer-service capacity. The announcement also said Acuity was expected to join Fast Genetics while continuing to supply genetics to The Maschhoffs. These were stated expectations at the time of the deal, not independently verified post-acquisition results. Contemporaneous coverage by Successful Farming included executives’ statements about the strategic rationale, but does not establish later customer outcomes.

What is known—and not established—about Acuity after the sale?

The transaction sources establish the buyer, effective date, and asset-sale structure. They do not independently establish later integration milestones, whether Acuity continues as a stand-alone brand, or the current operating structure of its business. A corporate-advisor retrospective refers to Fast Genetics as now called AccuFast, but that reference does not establish Acuity’s present status.
