ICAI opened online exam-form applications for the May/June 2024 Foundation, Intermediate and Final exams on 2 February 2024 at 10:00 IST. The no-late-fee deadline was 23 February; the late-fee window closed on 2 March. These are historical dates for the 2024 cycle, not current application dates. The application was an examination form—not initial course registration.

ICAI CA May/June 2024 application dates

Application stage Deadline or opening
Online exam forms opened 2 February 2024 at 10:00 IST
Submit without late fee 23 February 2024 at 23:59 IST
Submit with late fee 2 March 2024 at 23:59 IST
Correction window 3 March at 10:00 IST to 9 March 2024 at 23:59 IST

ICAI published these dates for the May/June 2024 cycle in its Examinations – May/June 2024 archive and online exam-form dates notice. The correction period was separate from the application period.

Where candidates applied

Candidates submitted the exam form online through ICAI’s Self-Service Portal (SSP) at eservices.icai.org. Before starting, ICAI advised checking SSP credentials, course-registration status and eligibility. Course enrollment or conversion, where needed, was a separate matter from filing the exam form.

Intermediate applicants were also advised to confirm that they were registered for the group or groups they intended to sit. The Intermediate applicant guidance asks candidates to review their group selection, medium, exam centre and exemption entries before payment.

Eligibility depended on the course

Meeting the form deadline did not by itself make a candidate eligible. ICAI set different conditions for Foundation, Intermediate and Final in its May/June 2024 examination requirements notice.

Foundation

The course-registration cutoff was 1 February 2024. Candidates also needed either to have passed Class 12, with the marksheet uploaded to SSP, or to have appeared in the Class 12 board examination, with the admit card uploaded.

Intermediate

Candidates needed to complete eight months of study as of 1 May 2024. For this sitting, that corresponded to registration on or before 1 September 2023.

Final

Final eligibility depended on the candidate’s scheme and training route. The requirements notice covered registration or conversion to the Final New Course, different articled-training completion or in-service conditions, and relevant training dates through 30 April 2024, 31 October 2024 or 30 April 2025. It also addressed Advanced ICITSS and exceptions for some candidates who had already appeared under the old Final course. Because these conditions were not one universal cutoff, candidates needed to check the notice against their individual route.

Checks to make before submitting

  • Confirm that SSP credentials and course registration are valid; convert a lapsed or old course where required.
  • Check that the photograph and signature on file are current and usable.
  • Review articleship or training status if applicable.
  • For Intermediate, verify registration for each intended group and check the exam form details before paying.

Exam fees varied by course, group and centre

For Indian examination centres, ICAI’s May/June 2024 fee chart listed the following base exam fees. The listed late fee for these Indian categories was ₹600.

Course and selection Base fee at Indian centres
Foundation ₹1,500
Intermediate, one group or Unit 1 ₹1,500
Intermediate, both groups or Unit 2 ₹2,700
Final, one group ₹1,800
Final, both groups ₹3,300

Overseas centre fees differed, so the Indian amounts should not be treated as universal. Payment gateway charges could also apply depending on the payment method. Paying the late fee allowed a late submission during the stated window; it did not change the eligibility rules.

What the 2024 cycle meant under ICAI’s new scheme

ICAI’s New Scheme of Education and Training was notified in the Gazette on 22 June 2023 and took effect on 1 July 2023, according to its New Scheme announcement. May 2024 was the first Intermediate and Final examination under that scheme; the first Foundation examination under it was scheduled for June 2024.

On 24 April 2024, ICAI’s Board of Studies said Foundation and Intermediate exams would be held three times each year—May/June, September and January—starting with the May/June 2024 cycle. Final exams would continue twice yearly, in May and November. Those schedule details explain the 2024 context; they do not provide application dates for a later sitting.
